Bryant signed to 3 year extension

Recommended Posts

Lol you cant say anyone overpaid for Kobe, theres no such thing. He will still be dominant in the final year of his contract. He will still have his unstoppable jumper, basketball IQ, and strong supporting cast. Look at Michael Jordan he was winning titles well into his 30's and a very dominant player in his mid 30s.

Is Kobe, Michael Jordan? No of course not, but Kobe's work ethic is just as good if not better then Michaels. Thats why Kobe will continue to be a dominant player in his mid 30s. And people bring up Rashard Lewis because it determines market value. The salary a certain player makes could determine the market for someone else, it happens in all sports. Rashard Lewis got 20 million on the open market, that means Kobe at age 35 deserves at least more then that.

You're giving him an extension, not just signing him out of free agency.

Yes he is 31 right now, but hes not making 30 million a year right now is he? Hes in prime currently too.

When the contract expires, he'll be 36 brah.

It is overpaying, but anyway, you do have Odom, Artest, Kobe and Pau for 4-5 years under contract.

Rashard Lewis still has nothing to do with the Lakers, dont know why you bring up a player who has nothing to do with anything yet again.

Kobe's birthday is in August. If you want to be technical about it, he'll be 35. And barring any major injury, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be an elite player still in those years.

Resigning to this deal allows us to keep the core together. So matter how you break it down, I don't see the big deal.

Is it overpaying? Yes, but it's not my money.

I'm bringing up Rashard Lewis to compare salaries, I thought it should've been pretty obvious. To say Kobe should be payed 18 million max is ridiculous, when Rashard Lewis will be making more (21 million) in a year or two.

I didnt say he wont be an elite player, I just said he wouldn't be the same player he currently is. Who the heck said Kobe should be payed 18 million max?

"Way too much, 18 mil a year max. "

I have no problem with people saying we overpayed. We will obviously be overpaying during the final year of his contract. But I am fine with that to keep the core in tact, and obviously Buss has no problem either.

This was where my Rashard Lewis comments were directed at...

I don't know if it was sarcasm, or what...

Jordan hit $33 million when he was 35 years old, putting up 29/6/4 on 46.5% FG.

Kobe has been making under $25 million his entire career.

He's due for $28-29 million a year ($86 million contract).

Ya, but Jordan is the greatest ever.

He would've earned more than that had he not been paid under $4 million until the 1996-97 season. By his second retirement, I would not have been surprised to see him at $36-39 million.

Shaq is 38 years old, and he's still making $20 million...was up to over $27 million with the Heat in 2004-05.

Kobe isn't overpaid for what he's still doing as an MVP candidate. Him and LeBron are on another planet from every other player in the league right now, and if maximum contracts didn't exist, both should be earning $30 million.

Bryant will be putting out 24-30 PPG for another 3-4 years, possibly more (Jordan did it at 40), so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss his abilities as a player in the future. Shaq gave Phoenix 18/8 at 37 years old, and Jordan averaged 20 PPG for Washington at 40.

It's not a reach to say Kobe can do it at 36.

Kobe and LeBron, dont forget Wade :)

But rly, what Kobe will be doing in mid 30s wont be worth 30 million.

I thought Wade was there, but he's been too inconsistent, despite being healthy. His late-game performances aren't stellar, to me.

And that's just an opinion. Look at Nash right now, and Kidd...both are all-stars. Kidd is 37, Nash is 36.

they are all-stars but not players worth 30 million, you dont know what I am getting at, he'll still be a pretty good player but he wont be the Kobe he is now.

He could be an all-star at 35-36, but he won't be a top 3 player.

Probably not, but that's not the point. The Lakers can't keep giving him one-year contracts until he retires, either, so he's well-deserving of the big payday.

Melo with the best offensive skill set in the NBA has something to say about that.

Melo is still behind Kobe when it comes to offensive skillset, plus what seperates Wade, LeBron from guys like Melo is their ability to create. LeBron James averages 8.5 apg, and Wade with 6.6. Melo is far behind in that department.

You do what's necessary to keep Kobe on your team, period. Good move on Buss to lock Kob' up for a few more years. Kobe's done so much for this franchise, he definitely deserves the money.

Of course, but you dont pay him 30 million, I was thinking 22-25 range.
