Jordan Hill's stats with Rockets

Recommended Posts

Wide open is hard at times, you see the Bosh game loser last night?

Well that was in a clutch situation, but that barely makes a difference anyway. Still, pros should be able to convert the wide open shots, especially inside. Hill did a nice job of that against Indiana, but that doesn't prove he has ultimate stardom potential. He will be a great player though.

This guy made dumb plays and had limited offensive ability at Arizona too, but I guess that the second he put on a Rockets uniform all those flaws just went away.

Its that Morey magic, if he traded for a scrub, that scrub would instantly became an all-star, its how good he is at trading.

Come on guys, you're overrating him. He'll be a great player in time imo but right now, he's just a decent back up big man.

Exactly. Like I said, wait a year or 2 and you'll see his true impact. Sublime had a very good analysis of his game above. He's gonna show more and more flashes of what he can become but for now he's a role player who's only going to continue developing.

Right now, he's a mistake-prone big with a limited feel for the game, good fluidity, and a pretty good jumper. He can fill out as a good pick-and-pop guy and shot blocker off the bench for a mediocre team, but he's not an impact player yet.

If Houston fancies themselves contenders next year, with Yao, Anderson, Scola, and Hayes, Hill probably won't crack the rotation. He has some promise though---but this is the NBA, everyone has promise. If not, you wouldn't be in the league.

Hill is athletic, he has a decent shot (plus for his size and position), and he is a hustle guy. But, like others have said, he has a low basketball IQ and doesn't (didn't?) work hard. Like Fish said, anytime he was in the game, he'd try and make things happen that simply weren't there, and it was frustrating. In NY he was knocked a lot because he was pissed he wasn't getting PT and it showed in practice. While Toney Douglas was the first guy in the gym and the last to leave, it wasn't that way with Hill. He was too busy tweeting about being tired and getting his dreads done.

If he has the proper work ethic and truly wants to become a plus player in this league, he absolutely has the ability to do so. But it's going to be a journey for the kid. I wish him the best, I love the Rockets and I love Jordan.

Huh?

For one, Hill is already better David Andersen. As a rookie big man he's displayed bad hands but he's getting more for a feel of the game so I'm not to worried about that. Jordan's basketball IQ is being extreamly underrated, calling him basketball dumb is way to ext ream.

He fights for the ball, he's a good help defender as the Rockets best shot blocker. Once the Rockets give him the ball more he will become more effective. He runs the floor very well, he's quick for a big man. You look at his potential and you see a special player. He's knocking down mid range jumpers when defenders play off of him, when they play him up close he shown where he can quickly get by them and go to the rack. He's also a very good rebounder for the minutes he's getting, loving the putback dunks and second chances hes creating.

btw Jordan is already in the rotation and could see more minutes then Chuck next season, you can see him improving and the Rockets do a good job of developing big men.

Quick Evaluation:

Strengths:

Jumper

Post Moves

Running the floor

Rebounding

Energy

Speed

Help Defense

Weakness:

Needs to take it up stronger with contact

1 on 1 defense vs guys with good post moves

Hands

Passing out of post

Unselfishness (understandable though)

Feel for the game

This guy has post moves and post defense? A little jump hook over a shorter player isn't much of a post move, and he gets bulled around a lot. You forget that Hill consistently misses help assignments, forgets to roll on screen/rolls, etc, and doesn't have 3-point range. Besides the rebounding, you know who does exactly what you mentioned? Yi Jianlian.

Hill's in the rotation because, like you said, he has potential. Hayes is what he is...a specialist. Why play Hayes in meaningless games when you can develop a prospect? That doesn't mean next year when Yao comes back and the Rockets will probably be a playoff team, that Hayes' will be on the bench. He's more valuable to a playoff team than Hill is.
