Suns center Channing Frye is going to decline his player option for the 2010-11 season and look for a new contract.

Frye's option for next season is worth $2.1 million.

He wants to remain with the Suns and hopes that the two sides can work out a long-term agreement. Phoenix has long expected Frye would opt out, but he's still in their plans.

"We're definitely tearing that up and getting me something new," Frye said of the contract he signed in July. "I can not come back on that. It was awesome and it was a lovely amount of money. It's probably been the best year of my career and, go figure, it's my contract year. I wasn't playing for a contract but, go figure, it is."

RealGM Note: Frye is ranked 89th in season FIC for the 2009-10 campaign. He has a Reina Value of +279% and 'deserves' to make Darko Milicic's $7.54M.

He's a back PF/C at most, what I like about him is whenever he goes on a streak the the whole team gets worked up and we start going on a streak. It's also great that he's offensive minded because we have Robin Lopez for being a defensive minded and it kinds of gives a variation in our rotation.

What a bonehead, it is kind of annoying a guy would opt out like that on the team that gave him a chance. Phoenix is the perfect system for him as well, he isn't even an MLE player so he won't be getting as big a raise as he probably expects.

he just wants a longer deal... damn....
