Joel Anthony's Impact

The Heat have won 78% of the games that Joel starts, with 11 wins and 3 losses.

When Joel has 20 or more minutes in a game, the Heat have won 82% with a 18 - 4 record.

When Joel gets 30+ minutes, the Heat have won 86%, 6 - 1.

Coincidence?

he has been the best player off the bench...i want him on the team for a LONGGGGG team - this dude is like a poor man's alonzo on the defensive end, and he has been doin a little bit of damage here and there on the offensive end with wade gettin him some looks close to the rim

He's a great defender and I'm really impressed with his finishing ability as of late. Last season he could finish anything unless it was a dunk. He's been a huge asset for us off the bench this season.

He is one of the best in the NBA at setting screens and his defense keeps teams honest around him. A player's ability to set screens is one of the most underrated attributes you can find.

Yep. His only flaw is really his rock hands. He can't catch a bounce pass is his life depended on it lol.

one thing that annoys me at times is he gets too many 3 second calls

Well he's a shot blocker who makes his name on help defense so he's gonna get defensive 3 second calls just like Zo used to get. His defense reminds me a lot of Zo especially the way he blocks shots and keeps them in bounds so Wade or another guard can make a play on it and create a fast break opportunity. Jermaine does that very well also.

He is a very good defender and hits open shots. Something I notice though, and probably only I would notice this, he has butter fingers. I guarantee you that in every game he gets a pass down low and it just bounces off his hands and goes out of bounds, anyone notice that?

Not hating, but its funny.

Joel's bad hands are common knowledge among Heat fans. Joel has got to be the reason for at least 2 of Wade's near 4 turnover per game average.

Really, his hands are the only thing keeping him from being good enough to be a reliable starting center. He can block shots and set good screens, and he hustles like hell. He's pretty much taking UD's crown for the blue-collar player of the team. If he could catch, though, he would be so much better. He'd grab way more boards, and score a lot more points (from his 2.8 ppg average) since he works so hard off the ball on offense that he's usually open, but his teammates are reluctant to pass cause of his hands. Once he actually catches the ball, he's not a bad finisher at all. I've seen him put up a few clean lefty hooks this year.

Drills and on-court experience are helping him improve. He's pretty young, so give him a couple more years and he could develop a bit.

He may actually be the reason UD is gonna have to take a serious home-town discount to stay in Miami.

Well, I really hope he takes it. But in all likely-hood, the Heat are going to wind up taking a guy like Amar'e/Bosh/Boozer, which will really minimize playing time even further for Udonis. UD was able to take the bench role this year because he understood that he would be the sixth man and receive nearly 30 mpg anyway.

UD is a starter. Unfortunately, the situation in Miami doesn't allow him to be, and he'll probably move on to a team that will use his abilities to the fullest.
