ManOnTheMoon
The Jets acquired wide receiver Santonio Holmes from the Steelers on Sunday night for a fifth-round draft pick this month, according to a person familiar with the deal. The person spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the teams had yet to announce the trade Source
Owner Real Deal Posted April 12, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted April 12, 2010 Steal for the Jets. A fifth-rounder for Holmes isn't much at all. If they are going to treat their SB MVP that way, why not deal Ben for the same reasons (off-field issues)?
ManOnTheMoon
A huge steal for the Jets, im surprised that Pitts treat the person who won them the superbowl that way. Good luck having a pretty good WR next season, Ward is too old and no one else on that team is as good as Santonio.
Smitty
There's obviously more things that we DON'T know about with Holmes that he got dealt for so little.. The Steelers organization is smarter than that. Also, they're not terrible at WR. Mike Wallace was emerging as a threat so he'll definitely see the field more, Ward may be old but the man can still play at a decent level. Plus I can see them going after somebody like Dez Bryant...so they're fine in that aspect.
ChosenOne
Mike Wallace is an up and coming reciever they will be fine at WR. The thing that makes me mad is that he went for a 5th rounder.

The 5th is the part that makes me wonder. However, knowing how the Steelers do business you know they wanted Santonio out asap. There were also reports that if Leon Washington signed his tender he would be part of the trade. I doubted that from the start and seems to have no legs right now. That being said, people need to realize between this and Ben that Ben has $100 million to his name and trading that is a lot more difficult than $755,000 and a guy about to become a free agent, have no desire to re-sign in Pittsburgh and has a 4-game suspension to start the year. Do you actually think the Steelers would deal Ben if he was making $1 million next season? My take is, the Steelers have fought to keep a clean slate in terms of its players, so why not put Ben on the block?

My take is, the Steelers have fought to keep a clean slate in terms of its players, so why not put Ben on the block? I think the fact he hasn't been charged in either case is a factor but the Rooney and the NFL will work together to likely suspend him. I would be very surprised if they didn't. However because he is the franchise QB, i don't see them trying to trade him now and probably not anytime soon because of the contract. It's too big a number for the Steelers to explore trading him especially since he hasn't been charged. I do hate that he puts himself in these positions. Thus plus I <3 Dennis Dixon. CaliCurbStomppa
I had no idea Holme' s contract was expiring and i figured we would've resigned him if he didnt ask for too much money but i def think they got rid of him to tell Ben we aren't putting up with this crap and you better clean up ur act or we have no problem trading you. Im hoping the Steelers can draft Dez Bryant or Golden Tate.
The Regime
WR becomes the #1 priority in the draft for the Steelers. They'll def get someone in the first couple rounds.

Offensives Line and CB are #1 and #2. It's likely 3rd round could be a good spot unless they trade up in the 2nd.
Jammin
Holmes has been suspended for the first 4 games of the season for substance abuse, so we won't see how the Jets look until a month in.
JohnWayne
Couple reasons we dealt him... 1. This isnt his first or second offense with the Steelers, the guy is absolute stud on the field, off the field though he cannot stay out of trouble! 2. He is suspended for the first 4 games of the season for drug use. 3. Mike Wallace was a beast last year, and we brought back Randel-El(I know he was bummy in Washington, but he give us depth at the WR position). 4. After this season he is a FA, and he is going to want PAID, and if anyone here is a Steelers fan, you know that we normally dont shall out the big bucks, especially to WRs! So all in all, getting a 5th rounder for him was much more then we could have gotten for him after hitting the open market after this season anyway. I hate losing him, and he may have resigned but he had his 3 strikes with the Rooneys, just like Big Ben is on his 2nd strike, one more and he is probably more than likely on his way out as well. In Rooney we trust!!!
