Magic coach Stan Van Gundy offered his opinion on the MVP race with a hint of sarcasm on Sunday afternoon.

"You know how the vote's going to go. LeBron (James) will win the MVP every year until he retires," Van Gundy said.

James is the reigning MVP and front-runner to take home the award this year as well.

"LeBron has to go into the year and basically lose the MVP. You guys have decided he's the MVP," Van Gundy added.

"I don't even know if Michael Jordan was as hyped as he is, and then [James] goes out and exceeds it."

Van Gundy continued, saying that fans and media "view players primarily as scorers ... and view most everything else as secondary.

"[Defense] doesn't translate into MVP voting. People look at it as it's not as important ... I don't understand that."

lol every year? i mean get real SVG... You never know if Bron will gets hurt then you look at Kobe and maybe he gotta score more since somebody on his team is out and they need kobe to do the work then you look at Durant hes on his way to the top and then you gonna have some players come to the NBA that have a very special gift.

Bron probably win at least 5 mvps his whole career we'll see.

How about actually reading the article and not just the title.

Here is a different website.

To know Stan Van Gundy is to know that he likes to talk. And just like the best critics and motivators, SVG is not shy to let his opinion be known. Yesterday, after the Magic beat the Cavs (with LeBron sitting), he shared with the media his opinion on the MVP race this season and beyond: “You know how the vote’s going to go. LeBron will win the MVP every year until he retires.”

Whether this was his ploy to insert Dwight Howard’s name into the MVP discussion or not, it is interesting to think about nonetheless. Howard right now is on pace to become the first player in NBA history to lead the league in field goal percentage, rebounding and blocks, and still averages a healthy 18.5 points per game as well. But should he be the MVP?

“[Defense] doesn’t translate into MVP voting,” said Van Gundy. “People look at it as it’s not as important … I don’t understand that.”

Just another us against the world ting for the playoffs. A shame he can't coach like he talks. Stupid enough to take Alston out of their lineup in the finals, put in Nelson, and they lose the finals.

Dwight can't make a shot outside of a dunk consistently. He has no set shot really at all. He can have as many 20 rebound games as he wants, but this year, that hasn't been more impressive then LeBron's block over Durant, his steal over D-Wade, his comeback in Boston. etc...

He wont win it every year because there will come a point where what he is doing just isn't impressive any longer. Also, Cleveland will have a few years where they don;t win 60 games or someone else will make a push for it.

Think back to Jordan's days. MJ did what MJ always did and the voters got tired of it which allowed for guys like Charles Barkley and Karl Malone to grab an MVP trophy; the same thing will happen here. James will put up similar starts but someone like Kevin Durant will have a fantastic season and also win 60 games and get enough votes to dethrown Lebron.

He probably will win about 7 or 8 MVPs unless he gets hurt. Melo, Steph Curry, and Durantula will probably steal a couple from him but he'll probably end up having the most ever. Dwight should get a couple as well but LeBron will be far and away above everyone else.
