ManOnTheMoon
I have to do a 10 page report and choose a side and support it. The question is "Will hand gun control reduce violence in the United States?" Just wondering what you guys think, so i can see some examples and thoughts that might help me argue in my essay. Smitty
No..because the scumbags of the world will ALWAYS find a way. Always.
YugoRocketsFan
No, because people will move on to katanas -_-
Flash
Nope. Like Smitty said, people will always find a way. I'm against gun control FWIW.
bigdog17k
Take guns away from law abiding citizens who is gonna be left with weapons? Criminals. And then how is one supposed to self defend a possible home invasion? Guns don't hurt people, stupid people hurt people.
reno
Guns kill and im against them, but like smitty says, scumbags will always find a way. It would also be very hard to enforce. I also don't think an unarmed civilian population would be a good thing in case of gov oppression.

reno
^ lolwut ur against guns, but u think ppl should have them incase of a government takeover? Yes, if i had it my way i would erase all weapons known to mankind, but since that's not realistic *least not yet* there's really no point since it would be way too hard to enforce, criminals will still get weapons one way or another, and governments have been the cause to some of mankind's greatest massacres throughout our glorious history. NomarFachix
Destroy every weapon in the world and settle things with fistfights and ro-sham-bo (the kick in the nuts or rock, paper, scissor... your call).
ManOnTheMoon
Im not too sure on where to side for my report, im for outlawing it, but i also think it's needed.
fly3rs18
No..because the scumbags of the world will ALWAYS find a way. Always. very true. the "bad guys" will always have guns. if you ban guns then the regular person will have no way of defending themselves. if you allow guns then they have a way to defend themselves there shouldnt be a ban on guns, but i dont think just any random person should have a gun either. i think you should have to take a test for a gun permit. there should be strict laws about having locks and safeties on guns. also strict laws about guns in public, threatening someone with a gun, and someone without a permit having a gun Edited April 14, 2010 by fly3rs18
ManOnTheMoon
very true. a robber comes into someones house. they either see a grandma sitting there and they steal everything or they see a grandma sitting there with a shotgun. they run away stealing nothing Then you can use the case for gun control, guy gets in a fight with his gf, sees that she cheated on him and goes to grab his pistol...boom life sentence for a murder. Yeah but that goes back to people being stupid and misusing firearms. That would be a case of a dbag who is very irresponsible and probably has mental/psychological problems. People who own weapons keep them safe, and are responsible with them. Why take them away from them?

bigdog17k
So then goes the question how do you know when you're giving a gun to a responsible person vs. an irresponsible person? Every time you purchase a weapon there is a background check. And on some guns a 2 day waiting period. Many crazy people who go insane might rush out to buy a handgun to commit a murder, this is why this waiting period is instilled. But seriously think about it, criminals are criminals, if somebody wants to hurt some one thats a problem they have. Even if they wanted to harm someone without a firearm and let's say a shovel they could easily access that and commit a brutal murder... are we going to ban shovels next? Everything has good/bad uses, depends on the person man.
Lkr
you can easily kill someone with a steak knife, and anyone can walk into wal mart and buy one of those. outlawing guns doesn't help
Lone Wolf
From what I've heard, there may be a possibility of "labeling" bullets so the police can find out who shot or owned the bullets. It'd be quite interesting to do such a thing at my work.

Lone Wolf
Making bullets and cartridges. It would be interesting how we would implement such a thing, though. A lot of things come into play when it comes to making bullets/cartridges. We already do some sort of labeling for the TYPE of Shotgun Cartridges and which assembly line made them.
