Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins announced this afternoon that he has agreed to a three-year contract extension.

Hollins said he reached a deal after speaking with team owner Michael Heisley earlier in the day.

“After talking to Mr. Heisley I feel comfortable about accepting this contract,” Hollins said. “It wasn’t all about money. This may not be the best contract I could have secured. But it’s still the most money I’ve ever made. We just go forward with the assurances that Mr. Heisley does want to win. That was a concern going forward. I’m comfortable going forward.”

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. It is believed Hollins’ annual salary will start at about $2 million. Hollins is expected to retain his staff.
