The Raiders sent a shot across the bow of embattled quarterback JaMarcus Russell on Saturday by trading for veteran quarterback Jason Campbell.

The Raiders parted ways with a fourth-rounder in 2012 to get Campbell from the Washington Redskins, less than a month after the Redskins traded for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

The fact that we traded JC for a draft pick two years down the road should help quiet some fears about the current regime being all about "win-now." I love the fact that they're willing to stockpile picks for the future rather than only wanting instant gratification. Would much rather have a 4th than a 5th or 6th rounder even if you do have to wait a year or two for it.

Campbell was complicit in his problems, but the obstacles he dealt with on this team were very real... esp. last year. No running game, receivers that led the NFL in drops, and an absolutely horrible O-Line.

JC is a good man, hope him all the best. He does not fit Shanahan type offense and moving to Raiders should give him a chance to compete on a team that has at least made good moves in the draft this year.

Honestly, I'm really happy with our draft now. While I wasn't disappointed in who we selected in the first three rounds, I really wanted us to grab a QB after we took Bruce Campbell.

With this trade, I think we have hit on all of our needs, picked up some steals in the draft, and it's one of the rare times I've been satisfied with our draft.

I don't think you guys got any steals, but your top two picks were definitely much safer and more solid than anything I can remember out of Al.

I feel like Bruce Campbell was a late first-rounder, maybe early second...and I think Jared Veldheer was a bit underrated because he came from a small school...seems like he could really be a monster, especially after what he was doing in pre-draft workouts.

Either way, yes...very unusual with Al Davis sitting in the big chair. Maybe he had the flu this week, and just didn't have a hand in who we picked, lol.

You better hope your offensive line is half decent this season, because Campbell won't do anything without it.

McFadden must stay healthy, and I hope Heyward-Bey has a breakout season.

According to Tom Cable, he will.

Aren't the Raiders shopping McFadden?

I don't think so. There were rumors of us shopping pretty much everyone (notably Asomugha), but I can't really believe it. Fargas isn't with us anymore, so I don't see why we would shop McFadden. We have him, Michael Bush and Marcel Reece...so if we were going to put him on the block, I'd hope we'd find our way to another rusher.

I think of the Campbell ordeal as teams finally wising up to workout warriors and checking unimpressive game tape rather than him being a steal, he's definitely a project. 2-3 years before he plays, IMO. Definitely has the athletic talent, just needs to learn to play. Veldheer was when I finally realized Al was still drafting ^_^ Dude is definitely a monster, but is probably in the same boat as Campbell and will need tutelage before being able to play. Certainly couldn't have asked for a better coach though, Cable will get the best out of what both have to offer.

Campbell Agrees To Extension With Raiders

NFL.com - Jason Campbell expects to start for the Raiders.

Oakland acquired the quarterback from Washington on Saturday in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in 2012.

Campbell previously signed a restricted free agent tender that pays him $3.14 million this season. He agreed to a $4.5 million extension with the Raiders for 2011, according to the Associated Press.

"We can do some good things together," Campbell said of the Raiders.

"I see they're putting together a good draft. They're putting together a defense that has been outstanding. Last year, their defense started to become one of the premier defenses in the league. If we can help out offensively and turn some things around, anything is possible."

I like the Jacoby Ford pick. Hes real fast and suppose be like next devin hester or w/e. This is probably the first draft the raiders actually did good for once. Hopefully Heyward-Bey can break out this year since people still have question marks on this guy.
