Flash
LMAO @ bragging about a combine 40. Mays is horrific in coverage, I tried to explain this last night but you guys wouldn't listen. Roy Williams 2.0 I LOVE what Seattle did. Getting a franchise LT in Okung and a playmaking safety in Thomas. You guys LOVE Mays, but it says a lot when his college coach wont even take him in round 1 because he realizes what a bad football player he is. The trade for Leon Washington was pure brilliance and getting Golden Tate is another terrific move. Oakland also did a great job this weekend. McClain is a physical LB and Campbell has the most potential of any OT in the draft. Not a fan of what Denver did. They did so much to take Tebow I just didn't understand it. If Clausen and McCoy fell that far down you have to think Tebow would've fell even further down. Also love that Baltimore did. That front 7 just got a lot younger and Mt. Cody got drafted by the perfect organization. Ray Ray and E Reed are gonna whip that boy into shape real quickly.

All I pointed out was that he isn't slow. Which he isn't. Edited April 25, 2010 by Bounding and Astounding
Flash
Welcome to the conversation Mr. "I didn't read the thread before posting". Cali said Mays was slow and bad in coverage. All I pointed out was that he isn't slow. Which he isn't. He's not slow but going by a 40 in the combine isn't a great example of how fast a guy is. Fast is when a guy hauls [expletive] in pads not a dri-fit and shorts. I just don't see it at safety with Mays. OLB is the place for him. Fast is when a guy hauls [expletive] in pads not a dri-fit and shorts. The 6-foot-3 safety is one of the best pure athletes in this draft, blessed with uncanny athleticism and agility. Solidly built with raw power, he possesses incredible range and even better coverage awareness. Shows the acceleration and sheer speed to assist cornerbacks over the top. Has top notch closing burst and pursuit speed to rundown ballcarriers and stay with WRs downfield. # Deep closing speed Rare recovery speed. Excellent timed speed --- Quick and agile --- Explosive with a burst Workout Warrior and amazing physical specimen with a truly rare blend of size, speed and athleticism. Pros: Great blend of size, strength and speed. He has excellent closing speed that let's him come up to delivery the above mentioned big hits. He has blazing speed and moves well enough on the back end to make plays on the ball. Pass Coverage: Speed allows him to play a true centerfield where he is at his best. Has the speed to make up for mistakes that he or his teammates make. A freakish blend of size and speed. We good? He fast?
Flash
Did I say he was slow? He has NO HIPS. Can't cover in a man to man scheme and goes for the big hit way too often leading to a big play for the opposing team more often than not. Speed is fine but his cover skills just aren't on par with other NFL safety prospects.

The only thing I've had to say in this thread about Mays is that he isn't slow... but people are arguing for some ungodly reason.
TheHutch
All BnA is saying is that he isn't slow. He isn't saying Mays is good, just that he isn't slow. By the way, not only does Mays blow in coverage, dude is also an AWFUL open field tackler. But yes, he is fast.

But...but...he's super jacked and is a physical beast!! /not in reference or B&A. Rather to the other Knick fan who looooves him some Taylor Mays. Phightins
but it says a lot when his college coach wont even take him in round 1 because he realizes what a bad football player he is. I don't want to get involved in the Mays debate, but this really stood out to me. Are you kidding me? I'd say the fact that Earl Thomas was on the board was more of a factor in the Seahawks not drafting Mays, not Carroll thinking Mays is a bad football player. The Artesticle
I really liked Mays as a prospect at first, because of his numbers. But the more I read about him the more he seemed like a potential bust. He's a freak athlete, but not a very good football player. He'll probably be another Roy Williams or Michael Lewis in the NFL, hits hard but cannot cover. I'm very happy we took Nate Allen over him. EastCoastNiner
I know most San Fransisco 49er's fans aren't happy about drafting Taylor Mays, and I'm not too sure where I stand at the moment, but all I know is that one of the best defensive players in NFL history is going to be his head coach, and I believe that Taylor Mays can really develop behind an already very good defense. You can call me a homer, but I honestly feel like the San Fransisco 49er's and the New England Patriots had two of the best drafts this year. Next year, who knows what is going to happen with the CBA, and the New England Patriots have their own 1st rounder, the Oakland Raiders first rounder, their own second rounder, and the Carolina Panthers second rounder. That is some damn good quality right there, and I'm pretty sure that the Oakland Raiders 1st rounder will turn into a couple of 2nd round picks and more. Clearly I'm not the only one who feels that way about Mays. You don't even have to go to ESPN or any other site. All you have to do is watch him play and you'll see everything myself and others are saying.

How many safeties do you see playing man coverage anyway, or let me rephrase, how many safeties do you see playing GOOD man coverage? Let him play center fielder and he will be a great NFL safety you can even bring him into the box and he will be like another linebacker out there. Excellent guy to have on your team, pro bowl potential.
