Guest Zyzz
Bigger Bust - Leaf or Russell?
crabbylion
Finally someone asked this question! I voted for Leaf as being the bigger bust because the man couldn't keep his mouth shut. At least Russell is humble in his "bust-ness". Russell, while constantly overweight, can still bomb a football 80+ yards. He has way more physical tools than Leaf. On the NCAA level Russell at least has a much more impressive resume. I couldn't tell ya what Ryan Leaf accomplished on a team level at Washington. Yes, he had the individual passing accolades but what did he do out there in the PAC-10 up against weaker competition? Besides, don't you think Russell may need more time to develop? Or h*ll, development under the right regime? Maybe JaMarcus can use a dose of a hard a** like Parcells, Ryan(Jets), or Coughlin. The joys of being a number 1 draft pick. Leaf is the bigger bust! Edited April 28, 2010 by crabbylion
bigdog17k
It would be cool if Russell got into shape, but then Raiders fans would probably be really pissed.
Flash
Wasn't leaf like the consensus number 1? I'm not sure Russell was so I'll take Leaf.
xx.
Definitely Russell, the guy ate himself out of the league. And Leaf was the 2nd pick, Russell was first. "oh but he throws 80 yards from his knees"... who cares, the guy didnt come into the NFL to play, he was all about the money and he got it, now its time to just cut him. http://www.bay-area-sports-blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/jamarcus-russell-diamond-jersey.jpg Edited April 28, 2010 by NeTs15VC
fly3rs18
i think it is still too early to tell for jamarcus russell. no one wants to play in oakland, maybe if he gets signed by a successful team that he would be more motivated to get in shape and play well. on the other hand i have no clue what successful team would be willing to sign him. but this is just the optimistic outlook
Owner Real Deal Posted April 28, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted April 28, 2010 i think it is still too early to tell for jamarcus russell. no one wants to play in oakland, maybe if he gets signed by a successful team that he would be more motivated to get in shape and play well. on the other hand i have no clue what successful team would be willing to sign him. but this is just the optimistic outlookDon't worry...he was in shape for a while, and he still sucked, even in practice. Most of his problems had nothing to do with our o-line. When he had time to throw the ball, he'd "cannon" the football out of his arm and overthrow our receivers by about 25 yards, and usually to the left or right of them. He'd also scramble into the defense, no idea why, and in one practice, while scrambling (if that's what you want to call it with him), he actually hit the football out of his own hand with his thigh...twice. They called it rookie nerves, I called it lack of talent and scared to be in the NFL. With all of that said, I have no idea. Leaf was pretty bad, and he shot his mouth off for no reason at all. If his receivers were being under-thrown, they just weren't running their routes correctly, and he thought he was going to be the best QB in the league. Russell is starting to look like Oliver Miller, and that doesn't do anything for his lack of talent, so it's a coin-flip for me.
ChosenOne
Russell is the bigger bust, mainly because he really does not want to be great. He has no work ethic, that is why he balloons himself to 300 pounds every offseason. He came into the league for money and he got it, just like what Matt said his time is up and he should be cut. NomarFachix
Leaf had worse stats, but Russell was #1 while Leaf was #2. The difference in money is also appalling. If Russell never plays another down for an NFL team, it's definitely OffDaMarkus for biggest bust.
bigdog17k
I voted for Russell he was the first pick, Leaf was second. I think Russell may have had more riding on him too.
