Riley Hints at Coaching Again

IMO Wade, Q, DWright, Joel, UD, Mario and Arroyo come back. That's 7. We're actively looking to dump Cook and Michael.

Michael would be part of a "big three" which would include Wade and an all star level free agent. There's no reason to give up on him and his untapped talent unless it is for a player that brings a better core piece (which would likely be a much more expensive player as well). Beasley's contract has its advantages though, like re-signing most of the current roster, and perhaps bringing in another big piece later in the future like Riles hinted.

Plus, the Heat tanked to get him back in 07-08, and spent the last two years developing him into the player they want him to be. His struggles this year was part of a developmental stage in order to discipline him and improve on his biggest weaknesses, which was the part that is the most necessary on championship teams. His offense took what should turn out to be a temporary hit, while his defense improved tremendously. Next year he will play with more freedom as the heat focus less on developing the weaker part of Beasley, and instead take advantage of his strengths as they pursue the championship.

It has nothing to do with who they should bring back, it is who they can bring back. If they sign major names in FA they will have to surrender the rights to their players, and in doing so won't be able to sign them to contracts that will put them over the cap. Either they will have to let these guys go, bring them back on MIN contracts, or include them in their salary cap scheme. Because if they sign a max guy, the only way they can bring back Haslem (the only guy really worth mentioning) is with a portion of their remaining cap. Also they will surrender the rights to their MLE if they use all their cap.

The only way they can retain the rights to their MLE and their players, is if they initiate a sign and trade for the guys they bring in, similar to what the Toronto Raptors did the past off-season, but they don't really have the pieces to do this for a superstar like Bosh, for example.
