fish7718
PHOENIX – Eric Byrnes knows that his Major League career is all but certainly over following his release by the Mariners last weekend. “I think this is the end,” Byrnes said in an interview with MLB.com on Wednesday. “You never say never, but I think this is it. Parts of 11 seasons, man — I gave everything I had to the game. I can look myself in the mirror and know that I gave it my all. I’m proud of that.” While his Major League days may be over, his playing days are not. The 34-year-old filled his first two days after his release on the golf course, and he was headed to play in a recreational softball league with his friends Wednesday evening. That’s right, the man the Arizona Diamondbacks are paying $11 million this year in the final year of a three-year deal is going to star for a team sponsored by Dutch Goose, a burger and beer pub in Menlo Park, Calif. “This is going to be a blast,” he said. “Playing with my buddies. I can’t wait for my first hit. I’m going to ask for the ball.” When you’re growing up as a little boy, more often than not your dream is to play Major League Baseball. Hit a game winning grand slam in the bottom of the 9th, game 7 of the World Series. Right? Well [expletive] that. This Eric Byrnes [expletive] should be the new dream. Forget about putting together a Hall of Fame career and retiring with your name in the record books. Every 8 year old boy playing Little League should dream of putting together 1 or 2 mediocre seasons, hiring a good agent to trick some stupid organization into give you 8 figures a year, and then retire and playing beer league softball with your buddies while still raking in CAKE. Do you know how much goddam fun Eric Byrnes is gonna have this year? Its legitimately going to be the best year of his life. I’m struggling to put into words how [expletive]in jealous I am of this scenario. Dude is basically living a real life version of the Sandlot and getting an ungodly amount of money while doing it. Just bashing slow pitch home runs and playing centerfield all drunk and [expletive]. Probably a bunch of older local broads who are like 5 or 6’s out of 10 who come to watch the games. Head over to the Dutch Goose after wards and polish off another dozen beers and 25 buffalo wings. Take one of those softball groupies home and do terrible things to her. Wake up the next morning and just do it all over again. All while collecting roughly $400,000 in your bi-weekly paycheck. Eric Byrnes – officially the new American Dream. So awesome, I agree with the article writer, I'm so jealous.
