OMAHA, Neb. (AP)—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says the NBA should raise its minimum age for entry into the league to 21.

The NBA’s career scoring leader and center on the Los Angeles Lakers’ 1980s “Showtime” teams said Wednesday there’s a disturbing sense of entitlement among many of today’s young pros.

“They get precocious kids from high school who think they’re rock stars— ‘Where’s my $30 million?’ ” said Abdul-Jabbar, who was in Omaha to speak at the B’nai B’rith sports banquet. “The attitudes have changed, and the game has suffered because of that, and it has certainly hurt the college game.”

I did an argumentative paper about this age issue with NBA drafts and such. It really does hurt the college game, and also the young players themselves. Might as well experience much of the college life, get a degree or two that wat you can have something to fall back on if anything goes.. but that's just me.

Thats really not fair to the next generation of stars. Kobe, Lebron, Tmac, KG, and several others all had the chance to come out of high school. If you restrict them they wont be able to reach the success those guys had, their records will never be broken.

I read this on another post and thought it made perfect sense.

they should do it like baseball, where the player has an option to go straight out of highschool, but if they decide to go to school they have to stay till their junior year.

So... Kareem wants there to be an age limit because people under 21 want money? I don't get it. People are legally adults by 18, I don't see any rules to how much money an 18-year-old can make anywhere else in life.

And nobody should need to go to college to play professional basketball if they don't have to. You don't need an education to learn how to dribble, pass, shoot, and defend.

People only want these college-first rules because they feel like there aren't any good players in college. That's because better players play in better leagues. Just watch the NBA for crying out loud.

I agree in some stand point then again I dont.

If they wanna TRY to go pro after highs school let them, its their life, if they fail, then they fail. From my understanding if you declare for draft you cant go back to school :)

bad logic is bad. I think all nba players should be required to get a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering.

If you get an agent and declare for the draft you just can't go back and play NCAA sports. You can go back to school though.
