KG To LeBron: Loyalty Hurts You Because You Can't Get Youth Back

Recommended Posts

Kevin Garnett has gone through free agency before and he issued some advice to LeBron James, who will hit the market this summer, after Boston's series-clinching win over Cleveland on Thursday night.

"Honestly, he's gonna have to make a decision on not just him, but his family and his future," Garnett said when asked in his postgame press conference what LeBron would have to deal with.

"Loyalty is something that hurts you at times because you can't get youth back. I can honestly say that if I can go back and do my situation over, knowing what I know now with this organization, I'd of done it a little sooner.

strong words from KG when he tied the wolves up financially

Because he took as much money as he could, just like 99% of the NBA would in his exact same situation? What an [expletive]...

I find it absolutely hilarious when people try to hate on players for trying to make as much money as they possibly can.

As for the original post, I can completely agree with where KG is coming from. Being loyal and commiting to the franchise that drafted you is great and all, but if the franchise has shown that they have an inability to build a winner around you, why exactly should you be loyal to them? It is not like they have really given you anything that should result in you giving them your unwavering loyalty.

I'm not specifically talking about LeBron James here either. This is basically my thoughts on any player who has spent his entire career on a team that hasn't shown the ability to surround you with the necessary pieces to win in this league.

That is why I would have no ill-feelings towards Chris Bosh if he were to leave Toronto. It is not like the Raptors have really shown anything to him in terms of building a winner, so why should he stick with them out of loyalty? What have they done that Bosh should be 100% loyal to them?

What good is loyalty when it gets you absolutely no where and you wind up stuck on a treadmill team? Before you know it, you are 30 years old and your window of being a star player on a championship team is startng shut, a la KG?

Sorry for turning this semi-off topic with the Bosh reference, he was just the first example of a free agent this summer who fits the criteria that popped into my head. I tried to save it with the KG example.

I'm not hating on him for wanting money, but they couldn't afford a strong team if he is making their entire salary

What are you talking about? .. Dude you obviously don't know about NBA team management.

The team decided to pay KG that, he didn't just come in and demand that otherwise he would have been on another team for all those years. The wolves decided to pay him that certain amount on their own accord.

I love the subtext of the comment. Here's what KG really says:

"Take the money and go to some Western Conference team so I don't have to play you 4 times a year in the regular season and again in the playoffs. By the way, F-U Minnesota."
