The Truth
this is all strictly hypothetical. I'm saying, if you yourself were LeBron James, what would you do this summer? if I were LeBron, I would sign a one-year deal with Portland for the MLE. I would want to play alongside other great, young talents such as Roy, Aldridge, and Oden. after that first year there, I'd have the flexibility of either signing elsewhere or staying in Portland and taking a max contract. the reason I chose this is because I'm all about winning. if I was the best player in the game, I'd be focused on winning the most titles possible within my career. things like endorsements and fame - they don't really appeal to me. I'm a simple man. give me my rings and I'm straight. again, this is just my own plan. no need to bash people's ideas, we're all different and we all have different wants and needs. I know the best player in the league taking the MLE for a year sounds stupid, but it would give me the option of signing elsewhere after a year or sticking around and taking a max contract. ultimately, I'm all about winning and I think Portland gives James the best chance at a title. so, what would you do if you were the best player in the game and a free agent this summer? Nitro
Money- Doesn't really make a difference between the Bulls/Knicks/Cavs/Nets/Heat/etc... Winning in the next 2-3 years- Heat/Bulls/Cavs Winning in the next 3-5 years- Nets/Bulls Personally, I'd love to see him and Wade on the same team. 2 of the league's 3 best players together...even if the rest of the roster was fill-ins, it'd be a nightmare tandem for opposing teams. The Bulls probably have the best and one of the youngest already set rosters for James to sign to and make them an instant title contender. The Cavs have the pieces and experience, just need a true post-up presence and new coach. Coming from NJ, having him come to the Nets would be unbelievable, and they also have a tremendous young core (especially if they get Wall) who all they need is that centerpiece (and a few veteran fill-ins like the Celtics and Heat imposed on their respective championship runs). Then there's the Knicks...who all they really have over the other teams is the NY spotlight. And as for the recent Clipper talk...if LBJ is going to LA, he's not going to the Clippers, forever in #24 and the purple and gold's shadow. Just won't happen. Nitro
^ so... where would you go? Until the draft comes and goes, until certain coaches are hired/fired, until we see what other big-name FA's are doing, and until we see whatever summertime trades go down...it's just wayyyyy too early to make any judgements. But as I said, I'd love to see him paired with Wade, and Miami afterall is beautiful...
ChosenOne
I would sign with the Rockets for very cheap to play with Yao and create a legacy.

Jenneral
Ive never heard that Portland scenario before. I actually think it would be smart from a winning standpoint. Everyone just assumes he's going to go for a max contract this year. But maybe (very doubtful) he will try something like this. They're already an extremely talented team on the verge of going deep into the playoffs, add LeBron to the picture and I think Portland would be the hands down favorite to win the whole thing. Warren2ThaG
Portland, pretty much a dynasty even with the Lakers in the same conference.

I forgot about money and endorsements for a minute and just thought about what team would give him the absolute best chance of winning. in my mind, there's no doubt Portland has the best potential supporting cast for him. it's almost like that team was made for his presence. you'd essentially have four All-Stars or borderline All-Stars in the starting lineup. that team would be so dominant, they could just go to whichever player has the weakest defender each game. he would also be able to get his max contract after next season because they have enough money coming off the books. it makes a lot of sense to me, but I'd give it about a 0.5% chance of actually happening lol. fun to think about nonetheless. Jenneral
On second thought, maybe he'll do that Portland scenario but only with the Bucks. Once Redd and Gadz are off the books in a year we can throw all the money in the world his way. :glasses:
reno
If i was lebron, I would sign with the chicago bulls for league minimum. I would play for the love of the game, and try to lobby bosh/wade to join. My goal would be to win as many rings as I possible could. I would get enough money from endorsements/sponsorships, so I would not try to bankrupt the bulls. Owner Real Deal Posted May 15, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted May 15, 2010 LeBron won't be signing with any team for less than the max. Not a chance that will ever, ever happen. Plus, he wouldn't have to. What would I do if I were James? I would ask Cleveland to trade me to Los Angeles, and ask O'Neal to join for one final title run. Who knows...they would be able to rack in Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom. Honestly, a good deal for Cleveland, and a fantastic deal for the Lakers. C - Andrew BynumPF - Lamar OdomSF - Antawn JamisonSG - Anthony ParkerPG - Mo Williams That team won't win 60, but they can snag a 4th seed in the playoffs. C - Shaquille O'NealPF - Pau GasolSF - LeBron JamesSG - Kobe BryantPG - Derek FisherBENCH - Ron Artest That team wins 60+ and a title. Obviously, this is a pipe dream and probably a homer pick, but if you were LeBron and Cleveland would only trade you to the Western Conference...what team would you ask for? Aside from LA, it would be Phoenix, to run with Nash and Amare...but I think the Suns would have to give up STAT. If I'm looking at just walking, I'd consider the Nets, if they get the top pick. C - Brook LopezPF - Yi JianlianSF - LeBron JamesSG - Devin HarrisPG - John Wall That team is scary good.

Legacy
Brooklyn Nets, been saying it all year. Wall, James, and Lopez will be sick. Trade Harris for a goodass powerfoward and you're set. Lee could be a good two-guard for them. Brooklyn will be a good market for James. A good coach can make them a championship contender for years to come. reno
Going to the nets would still be a gamble, you don't know how well john wall will play, and that is assuming the nets do happen to get a 1/2 pick. I could see lebron going there for other obvious reasons, but still I will pity him for leaving a 60+ win team to a team that lost 70 games.
