I can appreciate Bun B. Bun B comes with bars. Mad respect for him...((RIP PIMP C...)) but...Those stupid dudes from Houston driving around in big [expletive] cars sipping on lean who can't rap...cmon son no true hip hop listener is gonna like them

Not going to get into this debate again, but plenty of "true" hip hop listeners like Houston Rap Tunes... They just aren't guys who like Wayne and Drake. Agree to disagree, you like what you like and I like mine.

The beat is fantastic, but the lyrics isn't the best. I'll reserve my judgement on the best album of 2010 when Kanye and J.Cole's albums come out.

My top 3 at the moment is:

The Roots - How I Got Over

Eminem - Recovery

Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives

Got a feeling that will change.

The best album of the year by far is Eminem's Recovery.

Nov. 9th, is going to be a great day in hip-hop though.

Joell Ortiz Free Agent

Joe Budden Mood Muzik 4

Kid Cudi Man On The Moon II

The Ecology is definitely something to look out for, but I believe it's going to drop in '11.

I can get you a link when I get back to Philly, if you want to give it a listen.

Southern: Bun, UGK, 8Ball & MJD, Chamillionaire, Devin tha Dude, PWall, Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Outkast, Fat Pat, Trae, Z-Ro, Big Moe, Big Pokey, etc etc etc

The original Southern rap was the [expletive]. Koopsta Knicca, Three 6 Mafia (or Tripple 6 Mafia) before they won the Oscar, Project Pat when he first got out of jail and before it, some Lil' Wyte too maybe. Memphis rap is really underrated.

Send me that link too. I've been looking for a download and I can't find a good one.

Take mike jones off that list and its straight haha, I like houston rappers. Chamillionaire was my favorite artist for years until he just hasnt put out anything in ages.

But I believe that the best album so far would have to be Recovery. Every song is on point and his skill is just insane.

Others that I have heard this year so far:

I cant wait for Kanyes to drop though, [expletive] will be dope.

Who cares, it's what the majority of people on this board listen to. You don't have to rename it anything, it's personal opinion. Why would guys who loves Eminem post a screamo/emo album?

Fixed. And i have nothing against it, it's just, I'm surprised.

And none of my top 5 are "screamo"

Like I said, taste in music is invariable, so I don't get why people whine that it should be "rap album of the year".

it's a thread on a forum. forums are meant for discussions...if no one put their opinions or two cents in, there'd be no discussion, and hence no forums.

Am I the only one who thinks that Recovery is being severely overrated? I love Em and have listened to him since I was a little kid but I feel like the hype the album is getting comes from the fact that its Eminem finally making decent music again. It wasn't anything special to be honest.

I did at first. But i revisited it and gave it another shot, and it damn well might end up being the album of the year. I'm not even the biggest Em fan (some thing hes the GOAT) but this is a really good album...especially considering the recovery (no pun intended) from his last two albums.

Agreed. It's nothing special. The production, while "current" (which I feel, along with the guest appearances, is why Recovery is so popular right now), is downright annoying on many of the songs. His lyrics and flow are on-point, although his rapid-fire delivery gets a little redundant. It's the choruses, especially the ones he sings, and production which really bring it down a bit.

I wish on his next album he'd go back to his own creative roots as opposed to giving the masses simply what they want. From the SSLP-TES his music oozed creativity, even if a good number of songs were on the joking side. His new stuff just doesn't. Don't get me wrong, on both Relapse and Recovery there are exceptions, but to me he just seems to be giving in to what the mainstream demands, and some of his subject matter is getting seriously overdone.

I think those in the mainstream will accept whatever he throws out because of who he is. However, I think he needs to go back to his old style. They were LOVING it back when he was releasing the LP's and I think if he went back to it he'd truly be back.

Well, define "old style." I think, with his age/voice change/personality change, I don't know how successful the whole dissing pop stars (Role Model/countless other songs) and catering to white stoners (My Fault/countless other songs) will work anymore. I think his style on TES is closer to what he should be going for at this point (and on certain other songs like Beautiful).

From an MC perspective, I think it'd be nice if he slowed it down a bit, and got back to a more conversational flow. His lyrical ability and flow has never really dropped off, just changed dramatically at different points of his career, from Infinite-Recovery. At many points on Recovery he just goes so damn fast that you can't appreciate just how insane some of his rhyme patterns and use of metaphores and such really are.

EDIT: A more recent, non-TES song that I think has a style that Eminem should go with is the following (besides the crappy Eminem chorus, and beat could use a little work). I think in this song he's rapping at a nice pace, lyrics are tight and it's one of those songs he's more conversational in....

Sure, but to say an album by Rick Ross or any other garbage artist should be top album of 2010 is madness. Its an insult to music.

Right. Which is why we are basically discussing rap...I'd say 90% of this board listens to Rap/Hip Hop mostly.

I can't believe anyone is even considering putting either of Em's albums at the top, even in the top 15 is being generous. Although Relapse was 100x better than Recovery.

My top album of the year was probably Contra by Vampire Weekend. I'm not really into that type of music but this album was phenomenal.

Agree completely with Nitro. The production and the R&B style choruses destroyed Recovery. I don't know why Eminem insisted on singing in so many songs. It isn't one of his talents.

In regards to Album of the Year, I like Sufjan Stevens's The Age of Adz, Distant Relatives, Minus the Bear's OMNI, Curren$y's Pilot Talk, Vampire Weekend's Contra. I really don't listen to much current stuff besides hip-hop. I just like downloading albums from a couple years ago when I hear a band that I like.

The hooks are my only problem with Recovery, most of them are so annoying/cringe-worthy, have no problems with the majority of the beats, although Em needs to start working primarily with Dre again for future work imo.

Give me DR for rap album of the year though, from what I have heard at least, which, admittedly, is very minimal.

I know, I was making a generalization, not against anyone who posted in this thread.

Like I said, taste in music is invariable, so I don't get why people whine that it should be "rap album of the year".

I was agreeing with you haha.

Well that may be so to you, but it isn't to others.
