Lkr
The Dallas Mavericks are expecting star forward Dirk Nowitzki to opt out of his contract late next month and become an unrestricted free agent July 1, according to sources close to the situation.http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/news/story?id=5210625

xx.
If Nowitzki lands with a different team that would be the biggest surprise in my opinion this off season.

Universe
I'd love to see him with Harris and Avery Johnson but I don't see him leaving Dallas. If he did though how funny would that be on Jason Kidd?

If he did though how funny would that be on Jason Kidd? Yes that would ultimately be a good move for us if we can move up in the draft and grab Turner. HarrisTurnerTerrence/CDRDirkLopez Can then sign some role players by avoiding signing a big contract free agent at SF.

Mentch
Even if his intention is to stay with the Mavericks as opposed to testing the market, Nowitzki has at least two contractual incentives to opt out and sign a new deal, as opposed to extending his current contract on top of his successful history with Cuban and the team's intention to flank him with a major sign-and-trade acquisition. Yep this pretty much sums it up right here It's all about the money. That's why Michael Crabtree held out until 6 games into the season, because he wanted to prove he was worth every penny. Even after missing the first 6 games, he produced more in his first 2 or 3 games than Heyward-Bey, who was picked ahead of him, did the entire season.
