AboveLegit
Are you for or against holding players accountable for losses in the Finals? Do you look at Kobe's career as being to the Finals 6 times (this year will be his seventh, but we'll leave it out of the discussion since we do not know if he loses or wins), or winning 4 times and losing twice? Imagine if LeBron manages to win 6 titles (while breaking records like Jordan did), would you look at his 2007 trip to the Finals (where he got swept by the Spurs) as a negative indictment to his career, or would you look at it as him being to the Finals one more time than Jordan? How much weight do these Finals losses hold to one's career? Do the positives (actually having the opportunity to play in the finals) outweigh the negatives (losing in the finals)? Discuss. Owner Real Deal Posted May 31, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted May 31, 2010 Quite frankly, it's all based on how much you like/dislike the player. Fans that hate Kobe always bring up the 2004 and the 2008 NBA Finals...but they won't discuss the 2007 Finals and the 22 PPG and under 40% shooting LeBron had (and honestly, that's just off the top of my head...I used to know the numbers, so I may be close). They both played bad, simple as that. For me, personally, I don't care how many times a player has been to the Finals. I don't care if the Lakers get to the Finals, either...but that might be because I'm spoiled. The Wizards fans would be thrilled, right? Any loss...I try to forget. So when someone says, "Hey, Kobe is 4-2 in the Finals. Jordan is 6-0. LeBron is 0-1." That really means nothing to me. I would be telling them how many rings each have. moeroadkill
^^ just to add a little Tmac will always have the reputation of not getting out of the 1st around me personally i dont look at players negatives. i guess its really peoples opinion if you like/dislike the player like Real said
fish7718
It's pretty dumb to even look at great players by how many championships they won...Robert Horry won 7 championships LeBron 0 so far, it's all about being on the right team, great players don't win championships alone, Kobe, Jordan, Bird, none of them did it by themselves. moeroadkill
but there is a difference in the roles they played ^^
Universe
Teams win championships, not players. Imagine if Tim Duncan was drafted elsewhere? One of the top power forwards to ever play could have zero rings. Imagine if Kobe went to the teams that wanted to draft him? Would the Nets have a championship now? That's why it's dumb just looking at rings rather thn knowing what went on.
Newman
I guess winning championships and showing up in clutch moments i.e. guys like Robert Horry gain you recognition and reputation and the opinion of the public towards the players that won change dramatically. I don't really remember players that lose in the Finals as to me, you can only be one of the 12 winners in the playoffs or a loser like the players in the other 14 teams. I may be judging harshly, but my opinion towards those that have fallen in the playoffs is the same, no matter whether you lost in the first round or in the Finals.
