Let's take our mind off the finals for just a second to discuss who we think the top 10 PGs of the 2000-2009 decade are. Keep in mind, I'm not necessarily looking just at the PGs when they were at their best, but rather the PGs that have done the best job throughout the decade as a whole.

My list:

1. Jason Kidd

2. Steve Nash

3. Sam Cassell

4. Stephon Marbury

5. Baron Davis

6. Chauncey Billups

7. Tony Parker

8. Chris Paul

9. Deron Williams

10. Andre Miller

HM: Gary Payton, Steve Francis, Mike Bibby

Be sure to post your own list!

Tough, man. I might have to hand it to Steve Nash as the top point guard, if we're looking at who has done the best job throughout the decade. You can't beat the two MVP awards and those insane shooting numbers.

Now, if we're talking overall abilities, nothing more...sure, Kidd gets the nod. He's a top five point guard in league history.

Jason Kidd is extremely over-rated and it's not even funny. He can't hold Steve Nash's jock for a second.

I could give two [expletive]s about his rebounding as most of his boards are garbage and are just to get into transition.

There is no way he is better than the best passer this decade, and arguably the best pure shooter this decade as well.

Jason Kidd overrated? In my opinion Nash is overrated. Nash defensively blows, he has a career dRTG of 110, while Kidd rests at a 102. Don't believe in advanced stats? Even the normal stats prove Kidd has the edge. Now, there is more to comparing then stats yes, but Kidd takes over here.

APG

Kidd - 9.2

Nash - 8.3

Kidd has a steady lead there, although I will admit Nash is the better "clutch" or "legit" passer out of these two guys.

Scoring wise, it's safe to say Kidd isn't that accurate, but he puts up the points his team needs him to put up, averaging 13.6 PPG Career (Nash 14.6)

Bottom line is, defense always takes the edge when comparing players, and the fact that Nash could shoot better just doesn't make up for the fact he can't play on his man.

How in the world do you have Steph so far ahead of Steve Francis (and almost every other PG on that list)? And Cassell only had 5 really good to great seasons this decade...if number of seasons affects your view on guys like Paul and Williams, it should be the same for Cassell (and Marbury, Francis, etc..).

As for my list...

1a) Steve Nash

1b) Jason Kidd

3) Chris Paul

4) Deron Williams

5) Chauncey Billups

6) Baron Davis

7) Tony Parker

8) Andre Miller

9) Sam Cassell

10) Mike Bibby

Put Nash and Kidd at 1a, 1b. If I had to pick I'd put Nash slightly over Kidd because Kidd hasn't been the same player the last 3 seasons, never won an MVP, and Nash overall is just a much better offensive player.

I put Paul at #3 and D-Will at #4 because they have been so far and away better than the non-Nash/Kidd PG's ever were in the last few seasons. Probably could put D-Will over Paul because of playoff success, but Paul was 2nd in MVP voting in 2008 and led the Hornets to a surprising run through the post-season. Paul is the slightly better player so I put him ahead.

Billups is a Finals MVP, always been a very good defender and scorer, and from 2003-2009 made the Conference Finals every single season (winning 2 of them). His success really put him up a spot or two in my list.

Davis was the best of the Marbury/Francis types, and unlike them his teams had some playoff success and he's remained consistent and in the league throughout the decade.

Parker is another Finals MVP, has 3 rings and has been an All-Star. Once again, success counts in my eyes.

Miller's been extremely consistent over the decade and was once an assists-leader. I put him over Cassell because Cassell only had 5 really good seasons this decade, while Miller did it the entire decade. If we're talking career, Cassell is hands down the better choice. And then Bibby rounds out the lineup because he's been consistent, teams have had success and he's always been a good PG.

This is how I judged the order of my list. Agree or disagree, this is simply my own opinion. I'm not claiming to be the end all be all. I don't feel like starting a huge debate over how an official list should be made.

Nevertheless, thanks for actually posting your own list, Nitro. That was the point of this topic.

I know it's all opinion, I was just taken back by Steph's positioning and having Cassell quite so high. Certainly don't have to debate it if you don't want to. And yes, I knew what your criterea was which is what I was questioning your picks by.

I was going to post some response listing the Knicks 2000's point guards, but decided against it. I like your list, might swap a few people here and there, but a solid list overall. Agree with the honorable mentions, as well. Steph was a beast, pre-crazy.

WTF!?!

Chris Paul has only played 5 years this decade and hasn't really prooved he can lead a team well. He only put's the numbers on the stat sheet up. How has he prooved himself over other stars like Billups, Baron Davis, Marbury,Parker, etc..

No love for AI in that list?!

1. Steve Nash

2. Jason Kidd

3. Allen Iverson

4. Chauncey Billups

5. Sam Cassell

6. Baron Davis

7. Chris Paul

8. Deron Williams

9. Mike Bibby

10.Andre Miller

Even if AI was a PG, I don't agree with that list what so ever. He deserves to be Number 2. He had a better decade than Nash did, but currently Nash is better. not carrer wise though.

Really? He was 2nd in MVP voting in 2008 behind a top 10 player all-time in Kobe Bryant, and that year led his team to within 1 game of beating the defending champion Spurs in the Conference semi's. That kind of excellence is something none of the PG's of the last decade besides Kidd, Nash and D-Will could have done.

My big thing with putting Paul that high is despite only playing 5 years, he's been a top 5 player in the league for at least 3 of them IMO. The gap in level of play between he and those PG's you listed is so large that it easily makes up for him playing only half the decase. He's led the league in assists twice (would have been 3x if he wasn't hurt this year), led the league in steals twice, been on the All-NBA 1st Team and All-NBA Defensive 1st team, single-handedly brought the Hornets back to prominence as the best player in team history...the list goes on and on.

Check his stats over the last 3 seasons-

2007-2008: 21.1PPG, 11.6APG, 4.0RPG, 48.8% FG, 36.9% 3PT, 85.1% FT, 2.7SPG, 2.5 TO

2008-2009: 22.8PPG, 11.0APG, 5.5RPG, 50.3% FG, 36.4% 3PT, 86.8% FT, 2.8SPG, 3.0 TO

2009-2010: 18.7PPG, 10.7APG, 4.2RPG, 49.3% FG, 40.9% 3PT, 84.7% FT, 2.1SPG, 2.5 TO

Those are all-timer type numbers. Isiah type scoring numbers, Nash efficiency and assists, and Kidd-level defense. His level of play is SO far ahead of Marbury, Parker, Billups, Davis and all of them that I have no issue putting him ahead of those players in the all-decade list. After all, if we were making an all-decade team for the '80's, would you not put MJ high up, if not at the very top of the list despite playing only 6 years that decade? Of course, because his level of play was so much higher than most of his competition. Same with Paul.

Paul has been the best PG in he league for about 3 seaons now. But has defeinenly not had a better decade than those gus I listed. This thread should have strictly wrote Top 10 players this Decade that have played the whole decade.

I agree with the names being thrown around here and the order they are in, but am I the only one disappointed with the quality of PGs in this decade? Cassell was a beast with the Bucks and T'Wolves but that's only 5 years. Ditto for Mike Bibby. The same can be said for Deron and CP3, although I believe personally that the quality shown by them is enough to warrant a spot. Andre Miller is a consistent performer but if he gets a spot in the list then it means that there is/was not many good PGs around.

I agree. This decade didn't have great PGs. Well, it did btu it won't be as good as this next decade.
