Gasol made the comments on his personal website, saying he needs a rest after the rigors of a long NBA season and postseason. The Lakers will play the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, starting Thursday. "After a period of reflection with my doctors, physical trainers and physical therapists, both Spanish and American, I informed the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Mr. Jose Luis Saez, and National Coach, Mr. Sergio Scariolo, that present circumstances advise against my participation in the next Basketball World Cup in Turkey 2010," Gasol's statement began.
