Phightins
Who cares.... that umpire deserves to never ever ever ever be part of a game again. I disagree. It was a horrendous call and he absolutely needs to be held accountable, but he is still one of baseball's better umpires. He will (should) pay the price for this, but I was happy to see him take full responsibility after the game.
Jenneral
They'll make an appeal and the call will most likely be overruled. Still sad that he couldn't experience the perfect game right there with all the fans and players.

But the call didn't even alter the game's final outcome. He has every fan in baseball mad at him, that's enough punishment.

All the credit in the world to Armando for not flipping out and just walking away, not many people can do that.

Obviously super cool of Jim Joyce to man up like that, but even more impressive of Gallaraga.

If I were him or even the manager that came out I would've knocked his [expletive] out without even saying a word to him. Then I would have walked away. bigdog17k
League better overturn it.
Teletopez
"I just cost that kid a perfect game," Joyce said. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay." "It was the biggest call of my career," said Joyce, who became a full-time major league umpire in 1989. "I don't blame them a bit or anything that was said," Joyce said. "I would've said it myself if I had been Galarraga. I would've been the first person in my face, and he never said a word to me."ESPN Umpires are humans too. Cliché, but maybe he didn't set himself up for the best angle and truly thought he was out. It really is a shame that we could have seen the league's second perfect game in a week, and third of the season, from a kid that was called up from AAA with low expectations less than a month ago. But Joyce handled it extremely well afterward.
EastCoastNiner
I don't know if the league should over-turn it. Leagues never over-turn in game plays, and even though this is a very interesting situation, I'm not sure they should over-turn it.
bigdog17k
I like how if you watch it, it almost looks like he's about to call him out. It was a weird motion, almost ready to pump the fist... then he goes up and does the safe sign... just saying...
Paul
well i am an umpire here for middle school baseball and little league and he was in TERRIBLE position for that call. too bad that a fellow ump has to go down like this but at the same time it is inexcusable what type of positioning he was in. Cobb
I wonder how Galarraga feels knowing that it was a missed call. That really sucks.
