Jammin
I know I'm not going to make my decision based on forum opinions, but I was just going to get some opinions on here and see if it helps at all. I've pretty much narrowed it down to 5 types of breeds. Price really isn't an issue, because I'm going to adopt, but if I can't find one for adoption I'm going to get one from a CKC/AKC breeder. I am getting one either while I'm in Phoenix for 3 months, or wait till September.I'm an average active person, but I really, really like walking dogs (dog-sat cousins dogs & would go on 3 hour walks sometimes).I will have alot of time for the dog other than when I go to school (college, only 3 hours of class a day, max).I would like to avoid a breed that has tons of health issues.I would like a breed that is generally considered friendly to humans and other dogs.I want a dog that would be considered 'medium' sized, like 50-75 lbs. No Great Danes, no Chihuahuas. Also a dog that doesn't shed a ton (like a lab). I've narrowed it down to English Bulldog (male) - #1 choice, I know it has some health issues, but I like walking dogs and they aren't active dogs.Shar Pei (male) - love the size and look, would love long walks.Boxer (female) - look cool, good temperament if raised correctly.Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (either)- rare, hard to find, and likes to swim when I don't have a pool/live in cold weather.Weimaraner/Vizsla (either) - same dog, but the Wei's are silver, and Visla's are bronzy-brown and smaller. Love the look of both. ^click to see pics/info^ Any help? Anyone have any of these dogs? Tips? Thanks!!!
SRV
Its really up to you. It would be nice if you could see the dog before you buy it, just to know how its like. Some dogs have problems from the start, and others you can train however you want. All puppies are really active though, so for the first few months you are gonna have to deal with biting your hands, feet, shoes, furniture, and so on. Unless you plan on buying one that is older already, but then you can't train it too much.
Jammin
Yeah I'm going to see the dog I'm going to buy before I buy/adopt it. I'm planning on getting a young dog (1-1.5 years max) preferably a puppy though. And that's why I want to get a dog while I'm here in Phoenix, because I'll have 100x more time to spend with it, and train it with no school to keep me away. AllenIverson#1fan
Shar Pei. It seems right for you. The rest of the dogs have a thing or two that make them not great for you.
bigdog17k
Bulldog, or Boxer.

Jammin
lmao I couldn't handle a Callie! She'd eat me! Plus Liz & I took her for a 5 hour walk and she still was jumping and running around. Jesus!
GamerGuy
If you get the bulldog, you can train him use a skateboard, then you could walk for hours! I'd probably get the retriever, the bulldog, or the Weimaraner. Any of the dogs would be great if raised right, so I guess it just comes down to what activity you'll be doing the most with it. Jammin
^I was looking at them too, but I'm not sure if my house is too small for a shepherd. I know my backyard is big enough for any breed but my house might be too small.

Jammin
I think I may just adopt a random puppy for my first dog. I can't see myself spending $2000+ on a bulldog right now, and I could find a boxer or something like that in a shelter.

Jammin
For a woman yes... Joking, of course I want a lesser-seen dog tho. I love golden retrievers but everyone has one so I want a dog that's cool and more rare. And I wouldn't get a cockapoo because they're too small and lap-dogish for my liking. Also the last dog in the world I'd get is a poodle, even mixbreed poodle.
NomarFachix
German Shepherd's give me a big fat chub... I want one of them and a nice husky/wolf mix when all is said and done. Woman wants two Bernese Mountain dogs :o

Jammin
Whoaaaaaa update... I think I've decided on the dog I want to adopt. I've given up on buying a dog simply for the fact that there are 1000s of dogs that need homes, and a breeder doesn't need my money. It's at my local humane society. Breed: Belgian MalinoisAge: 1.5 year oldName: Cadance [will 100% change tho] http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs653.snc3/32267_390821812980_129071492980_4040915_5774885_n.jpghttp://www.webprovider.ca/lchsmanage/images/candance2.jpghttp://www.webprovider.ca/lchsmanage/images/candance3.jpghttp://www.webprovider.ca/lchsmanage/images/cadance6.jpghttp://www.webprovider.ca/lchsmanage/images/cadance2.jpg U likey?
