Is Pau Gasol a HOF'er?

Recommended Posts

He was good in Memphis but not Hall of Fame worthy. In effect, he has a three-year body of work which isn't good enough. He needs about three or four more years playing at the level he is now, or at least a small notch below.

I don't know enough about his international career, but if he's had established success playing for Team Spain, it will absolutely help his decision.

Keep in mind the Basketball Hall of Fame isn't the NBA Hall of Fame and international play is heavily considered. It's for that reason why Manu Ginobili (who has had an underrated extremely successful NBA career) is a Hall of Fame lock.

Does Spain have a Gold Medal? I know they have a silver.

Pretty solid resume...

NBA Champion (2009)

NBA Rookie of the Year (2002)

3× NBA All-Star (2006, 2009–2010)

2× All-NBA Third Team (2009–2010)

NBA All-Rookie First Team (2002)

2006 FIBA World Championship MVP

2009 EuroBasket MVP

2001 Spanish King's Cup MVP

2001 Spanish League Finals MVP

2001 All-Euroleague Second Team

2× FIBA Europe Player of the Year (2008-2009)

2× Mister Europa Player of the Year (2004, 2009)

2× Euroscar Player of the Year (2008-2009)

And Dan took the words right out of my mouth, his international accomplishments combined with his success in the NBA should get him into the HOF especially if he wins another championship this year.

Spain won the FIFA World Championship when the US lost to Greece.

As much as I have hated Pau over the years, his success internationally is something that shouldn't be overlooked when the HOF voting takes place. Multiple time all-star, NBA first teamer, and an NBA Champion. He gets my nod.

I would say yes, but mostly due to his international career. He would be borderline/unlikely to make it if it were just an NBA Hall of Fame. If you look at his international resume as Confidence posted earlier:

2006 FIBA World Championship MVP

2009 EuroBasket MVP

2001 Spanish King's Cup MVP

2001 Spanish League Finals MVP

2001 All-Euroleague Second Team

2× FIBA Europe Player of the Year (2008-2009)

2× Mister Europa Player of the Year (2004, 2009)

2× Euroscar Player of the Year (2008-2009)

Surely that is enough to put someone in the Hall of Fame alone. Put his NBA success with that and he should be a shoe-in. He's definitely more likely to make it than Rondo. ;)
