Nets going after CP3?

Sick deal for both teams involved, Nets get a superstar they would have used their cap on, CP3 now definitely helps bring in a 2nd star in FA like LBJ or Bosh.

Hornets are always looking to clear cap, and this helps them restart over again with rebuilding, I think CP3 will be in a different uniform in the 2011 season.

Excellent use of cap space if the deal goes down. New Jersey wasn't likely going to 'net' (pun intended) a top class free agent but instead of using it on a second tier player, they go for one the best players currently under contract.

Real nice deal for both sides, I can see why New Orleans wouldn't pull the trigger for obvious reasons but its becoming apparent that Paul is unhappy with the organization and with the West growing stronger every season, why not rebuild? The Hornets aren't going to make the playoffs with teams like the Thunder/Rockets/Clippers on the rise. Favors, Yi and Terrence Williams/Courtney Lee are solid pieces.

However this is coming from Sam Smith and anything he says should be taken with a grain of salt.

Rod Thorn has been involved in trade talks, but doesn't expect to move the No. 3 overall pick.

“I would say we probably will hold on to it,” he said. “There’s always a chance you can move it, but I would say we probably would hold on to it.”

Smoke screen?

if hornets trade cp3 they will regret it like hell.

Why? Paul will likely opt out the next time his contract ends and it's pretty clear he isn't totally happy with this team - as he should be. Get top value for him and rebuild because like it or not, even as a Hornets fan, I can't say they are a playoff team even with him 100% next year...

Personally I think Paul on the Nets would make just as big of an impact as LeBron or Wade. When healthy he's a top 5 player in the league IMO, and his playmaking and on-court leadership will really help tap the potential of the many young, talented Nets players. Not to mention, with CP3 in town NJ will be a much more lucrative landing spot for many of the top FA's. Give him a Stoudemire, Boozer or Bosh and watch out.

League sources believe the New Jersey Nets are willing to part with the No. 3 pick and every player on their roster except for center Brook Lopez to obtain Paul.

I had to read the sentence quite a few times before I understood it correctly.

This is reportedly in order to draw LeBron. First of all, it might be going to too far of an extent in order to bring over James. Having Harris and Lopez already gives us a pretty good chance at signing LeBron. It's a bit of a waste, in my opinion, even though at this point, Paul is more valuable than Harris in most people's eyes. The fact that we have Harris and Johnson together should not be overlooked. Plus, anyone other than Brook and #3 means that we're willing to deal the potential in T-Will and Courtney Lee. Not worth it when you already have a pretty good chance at this point.

I say they trade Yi,Harris,Williams, and #3 for Paul and #11. IF it happens...

Dave D: Crazy naïve fan moment -- Prokhorov trades Devin Harris, Yi, #3 and #27 pick for Chris Paul and the #11 I really need to stop there with the fantasies, I apologize.

Jeremy: That Chris Paul stuff you’re seeing today is at least three weeks old, but Woj had it right – it’s a Worldwide Wes production, and the general reaction to it in Jersey and N’Awlins was “yeah, whatever.” The Nets never made an offer, and the Hornets never asked. And we are reminded that we’ve entered a brave new world of NBA machination -- one in which an agent tries to broker a deal for a player he doesn’t even represent. Chutzpah, eh? It’s funny how something like that doesn’t get you decertified.

Looking back on this, I really wish the Nets would've pulled the trigger. I mean Cp3 would've no doubt brought in another big name free agent, giving us a for sure big 3 in Lopez- Cp3 - FA. That would've been sick, although I'm sure the Nets had to have take on a few contracts..

And thats probably why this stalled.
