Pearl Harbor or 9/11

Recommended Posts

Which one, in your opinion, was the worse of the two attacks?

Pearl Harbor

Four U.S. Navy battleships were sunk (two of which were raised and returned to service later in the war) and all of the four other battleships present were damaged. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 personnel were killed and 1,282 were wounded. The power station, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section) were not attacked. Japanese losses were light, with 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 65 servicemen killed or wounded. One Japanese sailor was captured. The attack was a major engagement of World War II and came as a profound shock to the American people.

9/11

The death toll of the attacks was 2,995, including the 19 hijackers. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 70 countries. In addition, there is at least one secondary death – one person was ruled by a medical examiner to have died from lung disease due to exposure to dust from the World Trade Center's collapse. The United States responded to the attacks by launching the War on Terrorism. It invaded Afghanistan to depose the Taliban, who had harbored al-Qaeda terrorists. The United States also enacted the USA PATRIOT Act. Many other countries also strengthened their anti-terrorism legislation and expanded law enforcement powers. Some American stock exchanges stayed closed for the rest of the week following the attack and posted enormous losses upon reopening, especially in the airline and insurance industries. The destruction of billions of dollars worth of office space caused serious damage to the economy of Lower Manhattan.

this is like the animal abuse/child abuse thread. dumb as hell.

first of all i didn't live during pearl harbor so it's much harder to relate to that compared to 9/11.

9/11, but I'm pretty sure that none of us were alive for Pearl Harbor so its really hard to compare.

N4Sheed was? You got a problem.

9/11 was worse though, the Jews planned this attack and blamed the muslims in the media.

Awesome. Now I know that I shouldn't try striking up a decent conversation on OTR. Thanks guys.

Well considering everyone chose 9/11, you should pick Pearl Harbor and try to state a case for it.

To me, it's not a decent conversation. First we had the stupud animal/child thread, now this? It's just stupid to discuss destruction and death and compare.

i agree. it's so dumb seriously...why are we comparing which was worse? they were both terrible tragedies in our nation's history.

Just keep it civil in here guys. If these comparison type threads get out of control and a discussion can't be carried on, I'm just going to close both of them. I'm tempted to close the other one already.

Just close this one please. :)
