Teletopez
SBJ: 1400 More Season Tickets Sold for Next YearSports Business Journal reports that the Nets have sold 1,400 new season tickets already this off-season, among biggest jumps in the NBA. The increase was attributed to the buzz created by Mikhail Prokhorov.Link Prokhorov and Johnson Talk Nets Courtside Game 5http://cdn1.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/426948/alg_prokhorov_johnson_large.jpgMikhail Prokhorov, the Russian billionaire and recently approved principal owner of the Nets, insisted he has a "simple, very simple task" for new coach Avery Johnson and his team. "A dynasty," Prokhorov said from his courtside seat during Boston's 92-86 victory in Game 5 of the Finals last night. "Well, it's better than him telling me we're going to be consistently in the lottery. He's got a big vision," Johnson, who will be formally introduced tomorrow as the 16th coach in the Nets' NBA history, said sitting alongside his new Russian boss. Not bad. Before he even has a practice, Johnson has a directive to join the Celtics, Lakers, Bulls. And a really good place to start that quest was seated directly behind Prokhorov -- Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade, one of the A-listers on this summer's free-agent market. "Totally coincidental," Wade said of his seat location. "I'm not even looking," Johnson said. "One, because he beat me in the Finals [in 2006] and two because I don't want to get fined."NY Post Prokhorov Takes Tour of Prudential Center, Has Shooting Match With MayorOn his initial impressions of Avery Johnson: “He’s a great coach. I think he is so-called killer coach. He’s really thirsty to win. He has a great experience over three years of coaching – he keeps the league record for 70 percent (winning percentage). When we spoke, he said he’s ready to continue this percentage.” On how his stated goal of a dynasty requires getting the best player, which is historically true: “On one hand, you need to have two or three. . . .one of the best players in league. You need to have winning coach and team spirit. All mixed together, a little bit good luck, and sometimes money.” On whether he’s confident he can get the best player, without naming names: “We can speak on the 13th of July.” On whether he’s considering additions to his management team, and whether there’s a timetable to bring in Andrei Vatutin: “Any Russian name – any Russian name – needs to have have a competition not only with the best in Russia, but here in the NBA market. I have a lot of options, and no decision has been made yet.”LinkPhotos Edited June 15, 2010 by Waldo
