Cobb
JOHANNESBURG -- If you thought England had it bad, another gifted but ultimately hapless team is in much worse shape. France's entire team abandoned practice after just a few minutes Sunday following an argument between French captain Patrice Evra and the team's fitness coach, Robert Duverne. As eccentric astrologist-in-chief and head coach Raymond Domenech tried to intervene, Duverne stormed off. Team director Jean-Louis Valentin has resigned and said he was "ashamed" of the team. A Dutch coach once said that with any given team, a coach has a shelf life of about three years. By that math, Domenech, who has been in charge of France since 2004, has seen his shelf life expire twice. And if the coach has expired, it's reflecting on his team. France is rotting in the dog days of Domenech's reign after stumbling through qualifying, needing a blown call to make it to the tournament and showing its readiness by losing to a watered-down China team in a warm-up game. Domenech's successor, 1998 world champion Laurent Blanc, has already been lined up, but the decision to leave Domenech in charge is looking more gruesome by the day.ESPNsoccernet Edited June 20, 2010 by Cobb
