This is a highly controversial topic. Is it Ubaldo Jimenez? Roy Halladay? Tim Lincecum? Adam Wainwright? CC Sabathia? Cliff Lee? Jered Weaver? Josh Johnson?Johan Santana? Leave your player and vote in the poll.

Absolutely. Lowest WHIP, best K:BB. Pretty good indicators of a good pitcher. His BAA is top 15 too.

Pretty sure Haren led those cats last year, Not saying Harens bad but if you called him the best last year you'd be laughed at.

1a. Halladay 1b. Santana

2. Lincecum

3. Carpenter

4. Sabathia

5. Wainwright

And speaking of Cliff Lee...

I know I was fully supportive of the trade when it happened and hindsight is 20/20....but looking back, damn I wish Ruben did not trade him. And his ridiculous K/BB ratio this year or any other numbers are not what has changed my mind. I'd rather have the compensation picks when Lee leaves as a FA this winter over Aumont/Gillies/Ramirez (especially with Aumont getting lit up this year, again, hindsight FTW). As I have said recently, I am legitimately scared that Ruben is going to run this team into the ground within the next 3 years, especially considering that the rest of the division is on the rise.

/rant. Sorry about that! Now back on topic... :glasses:

If you called him that now you'd be laughed at... because he's having a bad year. Your judgment is blinded by his current performance.

His 3-year split from '07 to '09 was incredible... 223 IP, 3.18 ERA, .239 BAA, 4.67 K/BB, those are phenomenal numbers.

That's what I meant, it was a typo...those numbers are great, not incredible...

BTW - What judgment? My judgment that Haren isn't the best pitcher in the majors, not that judgment is blinded by all the SP's that are better than him, and never did I call Haren bad.

They are incredible. Those numbers are incredible. That 3 year split is hall of fame material. (Not that a 3 year split makes you HOF worthy, saying if he had a career of those numbers).

Your judgment that, if someone said last year that Dan Haren was a qualifier for best pitcher in baseball, you'd laugh. There could be a case for it. Especially with those three year splits.

All of that said, Cliff Lee is much better than Dan Haren. Cliff Lee being left off a top 5 list makes me sad... He's so good.

Cliff Lee has had 2 1/4 great years, sorry all of my pitchers on my list have a similar or longer track record with better stats.

I didn't know what you meant with the typo. Yes, this year. I still don't get how that applies to Lee though, Lee hasn't fallen off like Haren did.

Sorry, I didn't know we were asking who had the best career stats.

Well best career stats = best pitcher to me, for the most part. It doesn't apply to Lee I never said a negative thing about Lee just that he had similar stats to Haren and Haren feel off. Lee is an excellent pitcher I just don't think he is better than the 6 pitchers I listed.

NL pitching sucks dick, plain and simple.

How's it going Ubaldo and Timmy boy? . See what happens when you face a real line-up, even though it isn't at full health? .

Jon Lester> Tim Lincincum = FACT.

The NL is WEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKK!!!!!

/Thread.

Lol @ you, nothing to say to an ignorant post like that. What's your proof that Lester is better than Lincecum?

Lincecum has been ordinary all year. Jimenez having his first rough start against the Red Sox is pure coincidence. I think he had the flu also. He has dominated better lineups.

He's the best young lef-handed pitcher in the league playing in a division far superior the the NL West, and the AL East is by FARRRRRRR the most offensively talented division in baseball, without question.

Don't make me pull out Brad Penny and John Smoltz's stats after they left Boston and went to the NL. .

Also, I still can't believe you think Santana is great. I'm sorry to inform you, but he's not a top 10 pitcher anymore, and it's not even close.

Actually, check that. He has faced a pretty week schedule so far. Still filthy though. Capable of dominating any lineup on any given day.

I don't get what it is about the Red Sox though. Don't get me wrong, very good lineup, but there are definitely better ones. Somehow, they own the top pitchers though. Roy Halladay's worst start of the year was against them (and you can't chalk Halladay up as being a product of a weaker league, as you know he dominated the AL East for years), and then the Red Sox also beat up Jimenez and Lincecum
