Just to further complicate things, consider this: Rod Thorn may be in his last month as President of Basketball Operations.

That's the headline out of Dave D'Alessandro's latest mailbag. He says it's not Mikhail Prokhorov who wants the 69-year-old to retire. it's his family.

"Thorn’s contract may be for zero years, if that’s his choice," Dave D writes, "And he might be leaning that way right now. The worst-kept secret in the organization (and around the league) is that The Boss is contemplating retirement as soon as he gets through the draft and free agency."

I am hoping he will resign atleast for one more year allowing us to bring in an assistant general manager to slowly put in because this could really hurt the Nets chances in free agency. All that sweet talk of playing for the Nets but then no idea of the future GM will scare some away so here's to hoping Proky offers a large amount for one more year.

I was shocked to see this in the middle of all the draft headlines.

No wonder Thorn was keeping quiet through all the promising signs that Prokhorov would try to bring him back.

This is where Prokhorov's decision to let go of Kiki really looks bad. If Thorn does leave, we don't have a president or a GM. At least Kiki would have filled one of those roles. Vandeweghe wasn't a very good coach. But he got the job done as a GM.

Then we would have traded all our draft picks for the next five years for a power forward that is on thin knees.
