Al Jefferson - Zach Randolph swap?

I like this deal for the Wolves. They get salary cap relief, a better player, and a better pick. A-Jeff isn't the same player he was before Knee Surgery. Live in the year 2010 people! Plus Randolph isn't guilty of a thing so far...

Heard this was a possibility last month, actually, and I didn't hear it from Chad Ford. I wish I had that link again (it was actually a Twitter post).

Money or not, it's a train wreck in the making. I understand that Randolph played very well for the Grizzlies last year, made me look like a fool because I thought it was a dumb move on their part, but this Wolves team would rely on him five times as much...and that won't turn out too well.

We were all talking about the Nets and how they nearly set the record for most losses in a season. We may be saying this about the Wolves this upcoming season.

?? He had a slow start, but played great towards the end of the season. Zach Randolph did play great, last year, but do you actually think he will keep that up?

Regardless, Brandon, there has been a lot of tweets that are bull[expletive].

Givony also posted it on his twitter.

Trade rumor making the rounds: Minnesota trades Al Jefferson and the #16th pick for Zach Randolph and #12th. Money saver for Minnesota.

I don't think its a bad deal actually, saves the Wolves a lot of money and they get to lock up Paul George with the 12th pick.

The only problem with it is do you really want Zach Randolph on your team that is trying to develop its youth?

Right now, Randolph is still much better than Jefferson. I would like it because we get younger, though. If people are saying this is a bad deal because of Randolph's attitude they shouldn't have to worry because Randolph has been a saint for us this year and that weed story was blown way out of proportion.

Yes I do. Randolph is an excellent player, and he provides more cap relief than Jefferson. Rambis would be in love with Randolph's rebounding skills. He was a lock for a double-double every game last year. He is very underrated due to his character, which was stellar last season. He is more mature and people need to recognize him as a top 5 PF.

Either way, when does the "money-saving" end and "trying to get better" begin? There has to be a point where the Wolves decide to do something about it. If this was all happening for THIS off-season, meaning they were dropping Jefferson's contract NOW, I understand...but Randolph has a year, Rubio is still on the dinner plate, and the Wolves are already staring at just $35 million on their payroll for next season, as it stands today (that doesn't include the draft picks they will sign, though).

So they have money for free agents right now. Are they going to take another hit in the jaw this year, sign minimums and an MLE, and continue saving money until they fall below $20 million on the payroll in the summer of 2011?

I could care less about saving money for next year, Brandon. I'm just pointing out why this so called "offer" was made. I don't like this "offer" myself.

Randolph's passing and defense has been always a question (except for last year). Same with Jefferson's.

Well, I knew that. I figured you weren't interested in it. I was simply asking the Minny FO (hoping they would register and answer me). ;)

Doesn't make much sense to still save money, when THIS is the time you have to start trying to spend it.

And as for Randolph and Jefferson's passing, it hurts. Rambis wants the triangle, but he won't get it. Not with either of those bigs.

I would like to remind everyone of Randolph's stats last year...20.8 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.0 SPG, FG% .488, and FT % .778

Now for Al Jefferson....17.1 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 1.8 APG, .8 SPG, FG% .498, and FT%.680

That's fine on a team with Mayo, Gay, Gasol and Conley sharing the wealth...but stick him on the Wolves with minimal help, and the field goal percentage goes down, his defense gets even worse, his stats begin to decline sooner into the season, and he's at a bigger risk of injury (comes with the larger role).

Not going to sit here and deny Zach's abilities, but just posting his numbers makes him look like Tim Duncan...even though we know that's too far from the truth.

Jefferson was recovering from a knee injury.

I know that is true, but people need to respect Zach. Also they need to realize AJ will NEVER put up the numbers he did before Knee Surgery. Just my 2 cents.

Dead already?

chadfordinsider:

Jefferson for Randolph talks appear dead. Memphis is unwilling to part with their picks as part of a deal. Minn thinks they can do better

That's what I thought afterwards. :)

If you say so, STL...

Minnesota could do better? I don't know. The problem is that Bosh, Amare and Boozer will be available through free agency, so until those three (and hell, even David Lee, maybe even Dirk) are picked up, it's going to be tough to trade Jefferson.

I wonder if Chicago would be interested if they weren't so dead set on having all of that cap space.

Like I've said before,

Jefferson for Prince +7th.

A lot of people have been talking about it.

That's if the Pistons can't trade up in the draft, something they have been pushing for over the last three days (and are adamant to get it done).

Detroit would much rather have Cousins or Favors.

Prince would be good for Minnesota.

Pretty much. There's been some fixes to the talk.

Apparently Minnesota is offering 16+23+Al Jefferson to Detroit for 7+Tayshaun Prince+Chris Wilcox
