What if Football Playoffs were Best-of-3 series?

Not trying to change the nature of the game, we all know and love it as it is, but wouldn't a Best-of-3 series, similar to that of every other sport except with less games, create a lot more interesting situations?

For one, the main event, the Super Bowl, would be played just like the NBA Finals and World Series, with the first team to win 2 games becoming the ultimate champion. Also, this would be the same way that the other playoff series would be played.

This would create a lot more chances for teams to regain themselves after an upset, for example, the Super Bowl 2 years ago, Patriots vs. Giants. Everybody knows the Patriots should have won that game. If they were given a 2nd chance to win, everyone knows they would have most likely won the next 10 matchups against the Giants.

It's interesting to see how a scenario like that would have played out. Definitely would make it much more interesting to watch, especially the crucial game 3

Absolutely not. The season would go into April and the teams that play for the championship could wind up playing 30+ games, including regular, pre, and post season.

But more football is what the fans want, yes?

Not a terrible idea, but they need a Pro Bowl break like baseball.

Yeah, but the representatives from the playoff teams "wouldn't be allowed to participate due to the chance of injury" and then all these alternates end up making it anyways, so you're looking at about the same thing that we saw this year with the Pro Bowl

You really think the NFLPA would allow for a 30 game season?

And similarly, you really think NBC, ESPN, CBS, and FOX would allow for the Super Bowl to be anything but a one-night event? That is why the ratings are so ridiculous every year. Sure, people are going to still watch if it's a multi-game series as you suggested, but little to no casual fans will tune in, and the networks will not get nearly as much money from advertising.

Bottom line, there is not a snowball's chance in hell that this happens.

I would honestly hate it, it would take the excitement away from the first game and would really just saturate football. I think part of what makes football so amazing is that there are only 16-20 games in a season so you treasure those games. 1 game playoff is fine for football, would be dumb for baseball and basketball but they are completely different sports.

A Pro Bowl break = nobody playing. Nobody wants to risk injury on a meaningless game. As much as I love All Star games, in football it's different.

The season would be way too long, but the end of the Superbowl everyone is worn out.
