Flight
http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/web_100625.html The video there has Bird, O'Brien, and George all at his introduction press conference. Bird says at around 2:30 that George will come in and start right away, so I guess he's playing the 2 for now until he gets stronger. The sky is the limit, but I guess he can start now over Dunleavy, Rush, and anyone else they might have played at SG.
Owner Real Deal Posted June 26, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted June 26, 2010 I was reading around RealGM the other day, and it doesn't seem like very many people know who George is. He can be a really, really good player in this league, and I'm not surprised that he's starting.
Flight
There's a lot of contradiction in that interview... Bird says at first he'll start, then later says he's gotta prove he can play and fight for minutes in the summer league... George is a really down to earth guy, so maybe that's why he's acting like he has to fight to get playing time, but naming your rookie a starter at this point is not smart if you ask me. They also refer to George as a SF, but he has said over and over again that he's a SG, to take advantage of his length. If he's a SF he doesn't start over Granger, yet Bird says he both starts and is a forward. :/
Newman
They can play small ball and use Granger at the 4 while slotting George at the 3. Danthay Jones or Rush can then play the 2 which allow a new PG (Parker?) can run the floor with 3 swingmen and an athletic big man like McRoberts/Hibbert. Flight
That's too small if you ask me, but it would be exciting. Price came on strong at the end of the year, I honestly would like to see him start a few games and see how he does.
Flash
You know they wanted to go Gordon Hayward but Utah took him.
Flight
Actually from what I've read, George was #1 on their list of guys (they didn't include the top 5, but apart from that he's who they wanted) after his workout with them. LOL I know. I'm just playing cuz you know the Pacers wanted to go white and get Hayward.
Flight
haha yeah they could have taken Aldrich that would have just about made me lose it, take the next best white guy.
xx.
Bad move, let the kid learn the NBA system first and watch the players around him, the guy is good but hes not going to be an impact player. He has talent to be a great player but right now he is still raw and can improve on many things.
Flight
I kind of agree, but what's really weird about this is that they've seen what, part of his sophomore season against crap competition and a couple workouts? To guarantee anyone the starting spot after that is a joke, I mean Wall hasn't even been promised the starting spot yet.
Got Favors?
George is a sick player, but he needs a while to develop before he takes full stride and actually starts in the NBA. Let Granger mentor him a bit, work on his offensive and defensive game in workouts/summer league, and have him warm the bench for a while. It's not like the Pacers need him right away, they won't win much this year.
Dr. Feelgood
I'm definitely going to pay attention to the Pacers this year. Paul George and Lance Stephenson (this guy will prove to be a steal in the draft) along with Granger will be fun to watch.
Flight
Yeah, Stephenson can be a stud, I mean look at the guy, he was on that one poster with Wall, Cousins, Favors, and one other HSer last year (maybe Bradley?) for Slam, they thought he'd be a star. He can be. George has been working out with Granger for about a month now interestingly, so I think these guys will get along and share the ball too. Sorta like Wade was coming out of Marquette.
Flight
Highly agree. And I think he could be one of those out of nowhere stars. Sorta like Wade was coming out of Marquette.Wasn't Wade a 20 PPG scorer his senior year on a ranked Marquette team? Wasn't he an All American? George was on next to nobody's radar until the draft workouts began, where Wade was well known. I don think he's gonna be amazing but idk if he's starter quality yet. It's like Matthew Stafford or something, all the potential and talent in the world, but do you start them on a bad team from day 1? I know QB and SG are way different but still. Flight
Random update for my favorite player in the draft: He's leaving Palmdale today for good, buying a house in Indy soon. He's going to wear 24 next year just like in college, as he went by all through his basketball career. "2Much4You" is what is signifies apparently, that's what he said on Facebook. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs121.snc4/36420_133280986701651_100000592507659_271207_7009405_n.jpgDamnit. That could have been me. Edited June 28, 2010 by FreeAgent
