Here's One BIG Reason Why Ghana reached the Quarter-Finals for the first time ever - the coaching staff:

Vojvodina (SRB) : From 2006 to 2007

Crvena Zvezda (SRB) : From 2004 to 2004

Playing Career

Sloboda Uzice (SRB) : From 1985 to 1986

Borac Cacak (SRB) : From 1982 to 1984

Vojvodina (SRB) : From 1979 to 1980

Crvena Zvezda (SRB) : From 1978 to 1979

Borac Cacak (SRB) : From 1975 to 1978

Also the first coach to take four different teams beyond the first round, hence earning the nickname of 'Miracle Worker').

Could be cause USA choked too.

So why do you root for all the African teams hardcore?

Many reasons:

1.) There are 32 teams at the World Cup, and only 5 spots for African teams. For reference, there are THIRTEEN (WTF?!) Euro teams:

http://www.fifa.com/imgml/worldcup/teams.jpg

And at World Cup qualiications, some lame Arab teams like Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, ALWAYS steal one of the 5 African berths*.

2.) Moreover, those same Arab countries are allowed to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Just because they occupy Africa's northern part -- that doesn't make 'em African. And since the Egyption nat'l team CAN'T qualify for the World Cup, they give 110% in the Cup of Nations. Hence the last three African cups were won by an Arab team (Egypt). <_<

*3.) Ok, so 5 spots but 'em Arabs steal one -- that means just 4 spots left for African teams. But this year, for the 1st time ever, the tournament is hosted by.. an African nation! ;) So that gives the continent: 4 + 1 = 5 teams. Sadly, maybe it's the last time we see 5 African teams -- I doubt FIFA would let an African nation host the World Cup agai wthi the next 30-40 years.

4.) African football is nice. They touch the ball well but, like I pointed out, you got only 4 African teams so you don't get to see much of their game. I guess that's why Ghana have become only the third African team to reach the quarter finals of the World Cup.

5.) Ghana's evolving -- last year they became the first African nation to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup by defeating Brazil (4-3 in a penalty shootout).

6.) After gettin' robbed in the Africa Cup of Nations in January (their winnin' goal by Keitá was ruled out <_< ), Ivory Coast got screwed AGAIN -- 'cause of the match order -- if Brazil played Portugal in the 2nd Round, Portugal would have been thrased out.

I keep counting 6 African teams.

So you're saying since there is only a few amount you wanna root for them. Well theres only 3 Asian teams, so I should root for them.

Two questions.... do you smoke a lot of weed? Second, how did your random man love for Africans start?

Well, by hosting the tournament you automatically get in. So with South Africa aside, there is only 5 African teams.

So since there are some Arab (non-black) countries on the continent of Africa they should not be allowed to be considered apart of Africa?

My guess is this is similar to countries like India, Afghanistan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc all being on a continent called ASIA when they aren't of Asian decent.

Shaliq brah, you dont make sense sometimes and I think it would just make a lot more sense if you just came out and said you root for all the black teams.

Yeah but why the fukc would you put South Africa aside when they're in the world cup and from Africa and we're discussing African teams in the world cup.

There should be 13 Euro countries because there are too many good European nations, even the likes of Croatia/Russia/Turkey/Sweden/Czech Republic/Ireland couldnt make the World Cup, Africa has 6 people from the continent in the world cup and there is only 1 left, why? Because they just arent as good as European or South American teams, if anything Africa should have less spots and South America should get 1 more, same with Europe.

Plus lol @ adding more countries from Africa, theres no good African teams that have missed the World Cup, and the ones that are there already suck.

N4S, FIFA is NOT about geography, brah:

  • Israel IS NOT a European country but they always play in the UEFA (Euro) qualifying zone.
  • Australia plays in the Asia confederation. And does Australia belong to the Asian continent geographically..? No.

'too many good European nations'? :D Like Greece, right? LOL

  • The Greek team needed a red card to win a single game. Heck, Greece played an Argentine team full of reserves (Messi + 7 reserves) and still couldn't score a single goal.
  • Or take, for example, Slovenia -- they only managed to draw with USA 'cause the ref robbed the Americans.
  • How about Italy? They couldn't beat a New Zealand team that's 150th in the FIFA ranking. :D
  • Or France -- France got OWNED by South Africa. Yugo, some of those 13 Euro teams are a joke, man. A disgrace to the World Cup. <_<

Yugo, you say that the African teams that are already here suck but Ivory Coast >>> Portugal.

In fact, Ivory Coast is out ONLY because of the match order. No way Portugal would have made it IF they played Brazil first. Man, open your eyes, Portugal faced a Brazilian team that was WITHOUT 3 of their best plrs: Kaká, Robinho and Elano. Moreover, Brazil had already secured a spot in the knockout stage. THEY HAD NO MOTIVATION TO WIN THE GAME WITH PORTUGAL. Just, imagine if the Second round was like that:

Round 1: Brazil - North Korea 2:1 (Brazil: 3 pts)

Ivory Coast - Portugal 0:0 (Ivory Copast/Portugal: 1 pt each)

Round 2: Brazil with Kaká, Robinho and Elano >> Portugal (Brazil: 6 pts)

Ivory Coast > North Korea (Ivory Copast: 4 pts)

Round 3: Brazil - Ivory Coast

Portugal > N. Korea

Even if Portugal win their game with N. Korea they finish with 4 pts, and all Ivory Coast gotta do is draw a game with a team that'll rest its best plrs.

Bottom line:

Portugal got lucky. They made it out of group stage just because they didn't face Brazil at its full force. They played against a pale shade of Brazilian's Best. <_<

And FYI, Armenia, Georgia and Russia all play against European teams in the road to the World Cup. They are considered European teams by FIFA.

Shaliq, I still think your you're missing the point so I'm going to come out and say blantantly what most are trying to get answered.

Why do you seem to only root for black countries?

I DON'T root only for 'black countries', man. I think you're the one missing some points here - 2008 through 2010:

Cheers?!! WHAT?!!!!  You enjoyed that?

I haven't felt this sad since Iran beat USA 2-1 back in 1998....

SoccerPubs.com/boards/index.php?showtopic=25482&mode=threaded&pid=501894

(...) I was the happiest man on earth when USA beat Portugal 3-2 in their opening match at World Cup '02 (Korea/Japan). Cobi Jones secured the ball well off in his 3rd World Cup. He won some precious minutes for team USA.

(...) Back in 2002 I supported USA like hell.. I celebrated their 1/8-Finals win over Mexico as if I won the lottery! And I was mad when they weren't awarded a penalty against Germany in the 1/4-Finals.... A German defender made a delibarate handball play at the goal-line... <_< (...)

Is USA a black country?

You gotta stop tryinna stain my name, brah.

Shaliq, so your trying to tell me that you aren't more favorable to black countries?

Saying that you are more favorable to black countries isn't staining your name.

Two things:

  1. You ain't saying that I'm more favorable to black countries. You're tryinna make me look racist, and that certainly is staining my name, 'brah'.
  2. Get it right, once and for all -- I ain't rootin for African countries only:

Ha-ha!! Thanks 4 the props!

OMG!!! WINSTON REID DID IT AGAIN!!!! NEW ZEALAND TAKE THE LEAD!!! GO KIWIS!!! GO FEARNS!!!! GO NZL!!!!

A'ight, man. Now if, for some strange reason, you consider The United States a 'black country' (WTH?! ), then --

Is New Zealand a 'black country'?

http://www.otrbasketball.com/forums/public/style_extra/post_icons/icon14.gif

I don't think so...

I think people just want to know why you favor it so much. That's all. It's just curiosity.

In 2006, Ivory Coast got a bit unlucky -- they were drawn in the same group with some of the best teams in the history of sport: Argentina, Netherlands and Serbia/Montenegro.

They narrowly lost to Argentina (1-2), and 'The Orange Machine' (1-2). In their last game they were down 0-2 to Serbia & Montenegro, but fought back and won 3-2 (without Didié' Drogbá!).

I favor them so much 'cause they deserve a big stage trophy. Sadly, they got robbed in the Africa Cup of Nations -- the ref disallowed a legal goal in an elimantion game against Algeria.. <_<

Drogbá is 32. Abdúl-Kadér Keïtá is 30 or 31. The window's closing for them. The next world Cup is in 2014. :( This could be their last World Cup... This 'ship was on their continent... It was supposed to be the tournament of their lives.

You're throwing out a pretty huge "what if", broseph.

I still state that Portugal got lucky because:

  • Kaká, Robinho and Elano were not on the field for Brazil.
  • Portugal faced a Brazilian team that had absolutely NO motivation to play for a win. Draw/Win/Lose - it didn't really matter to 'em.. <_< DAMN, I GET MAD EVERY TIME I THINK ABOUT IT!
