Sħãlïq™
All five South American teams made the 'Round of 16'. Apart from Chile, all other South American teams won their groups: - Uruguay won Group A; - Argentina won Group B; - Paraguay won Group F; - Brazil won Group G; This Brazilian soccer commentator, said that for the first time ever, South America managed to place more teams in the Quarter-finals than Europe. The most Europe can get is only 3 teams (The Netherlands, Germany and Spain/Portugal) among the Final Eight: http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/1209/bracketk.png That's quite a feat, considering Europe's huge upstart: FIRST ROUND:Europe: 13 teamsSouth America: 5 teams ROUND OF 16:Europe: 6 teamsSouth America: 5 teams 1/4-Finals ('Final Eight'):Europe: 3 teams: http://pt.fifa.com/imgml/flags/s/ned.gif - http://pt.fifa.com/imgml/flags/s/ger.gif + Spain/PortugalSouth America: 4 teams: http://pt.fifa.com/imgml/flags/s/bra.gif - http://pt.fifa.com/imgml/flags/s/arg.gif - http://pt.fifa.com/imgml/flags/s/par.gif - http://pt.fifa.com/imgml/flags/s/uru.gif South American soccer is on the rise. xx.
LOL yeah.... I think everyone noticed this. If you actually follow soccer not just the world cup, it was known that a South American team would win this world cup because there are no specific dominant teams in Europe right now like for instance Brazil. Said it before the world cup still will go with it and say Brazil will go with it, they are too strong and talented. And now Argentina after a poor qualifying stage is now ripping it in the world cup. The best 4 countries of South America are those 4 countries that are based from European descent, the other real hispanic South American countries are pretty bad at soccer though. Europe is still the leader in soccer and always will be but in an overall type category since we have many, many great soccer teams however South America now has the 1 or 2 team that just stick out and dominate. Germany, Netherlands, Spain..all these teams are very talented but do they have the dominance to come away and beat a Brazilian team is a question in the air right now. Brazil comes out every game with dominance while the other teams are too inconsistent with their play which is separating the European powerhouses and teams like Brazil and Argentina right now. Need4Sheed
FYI. European teams have never won the WC off of European soil.
Sħãlïq™
FYI. European teams have never won the WC off of European soil.FYI, I am aware. It only comes to confirm the fact most European host nations get a lot of ref help -- like France in 1998.
