Is Kobe in his prime?

Recommended Posts

I think Kobe has surpassed his prime, but still puts up numbers to compete with the rest of the NBA's top players, like Durant, Anthony, and even LeBron.'

Kobe will still put up great numbers for years to come, just not numbers like he was putting up a few years back.

See, I think you guys are looking too much into his "athletic" prime rather than his actual playing prime. If we want to go by how fast he can run or how high he can jump, he was never really the same after '05-'06. But, the beauty of Kobe is that every year he adds to his game and improves a basketball skill. Remember, before the injuries last year he started the season out on fire. The stats took a hit because he had to retool his game to accomodate his injuries, which he did and which is why he had arguably the best post-season of his career.

He dropped 30+ points in 11 of 12 playoff games after getting that knee drained, locked down Westbrook, set a career playoff high in assists in a game and probably one in rebounds as well (had 15 boards in Game 7 vs. Boston, that may have been a career high).

If he's already out of his prime, those are pretty scary numbers.

Didn't he have like 18 rebounds in a playoff game against the Kings back in like the 2001 or 2002 playoffs?

How can he be past his prime when he played his best basketball of his career last season before the injuries? You guys forgot he was the favorite to win the MVP before the injuries and played extremely well in the first half of the season?

Kobe might still perform like the best player in the game, but I think he is out of his prime. He used to do crazy things he doesn't do anymore. It isn't a bad thing to be out of your prime, it just means his best days are behind him, which is a fact.

Haha, close...I forgot about that. He dropped 48 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in Game 4 (close-out game) against the Kings.

Funny enough, that 15 he pulled down against Boston is the second most he's had in his career, regular season or playoffs...and he's gotten 15 two other times.

Old Kobe, with the bad knees.

LeBron basically had the MVP locked up by January...

I'm pretty sure they already gave the 2011 MVP to LeBron, also. Just saying.

IMO this year was the end of his prime. He's not as athletic as he once was, but he's smarter, and a more complete player now than when he could jump out of the gym. I'm not saying the guy's not an athlete now, he's still in the top half of SGs for athleticism, but he's all about the mental side now.

I think he can continue to be a great player for 3 or 4 more years, but he's ending his prime soon.

He's still in his prime. He's probably got another 2 MAYBE 3 seasons left at being the best in the league, then he'll really drop off from there.
