Legacy
LOL that was too funny, but what an idiot. Cavs will win it all before LeBron? Idk about that.
Multi-Billionaire
I love the letter. But at the same time are players really going to play for Cleveland if this is the type of backlash they get for leaving? Once in a blue moon, I can't help but think you're smart. This one move is really questioning Dan Gilbert as a person, a businessman, as a leader, as an owner. There's just so many wrongs in one statement one can only wonder, how did this type of person get to the top in the first place? - Wrong #1: If LeBron wins 3-4-5 championships in the next 5 years in Miami, who is to say he's not coming back to Cleveland to try to win one for his hometown? If he is satisfied with his rings, then that is a window of possibility... that he could come back to Cleveland in 5 years after he's done his thing in Miami. But it has been shut tight by Dan Gilbert with this statement. Whatever small possibility/ thought lingering in LeBron's mind that he will come back to Cleveland in 5 years is dashed. You don't burn bridge like that... no matter how you hate the person... and I understand Gilbert for being hurt and how he's speaking for himself and the Cavs fans and the city, but you don't burn bridge like that because nothing you say/ do will change the fact LeBron is gone for the next 5 years. So why the heck make it worse for yourself personally and as a businessman, your team, its value, and the community? - Wrong #2: It just makes other stars considering Cleveland as destination be cautious... "what happens if things do not go his (Gilbert's) way? He can flame LeBron he can flame me for sure..." - Wrong #3: This is only Cleveland, this is not LA Lakers, or New York or Bulls, teams with chance to compete for championships, or big markets... where the owner can say, "screw LeBron, we're getting Melo or the next big thing". This is Cleveland. If it was hard before to get a big name free agent to sign, what makes Gilbert think it would be easier now after his irrational statement? I just don't see how a businessman like him can make so many errors and very damaging consequences in one single statement. How the heck this dude got rich by making deals in business... because this is clearly BAD business. I'm not saying Gilbert should be a robot and not feel emotional, but fact is whatever you say or do will not change the fact LeBron is gone for the next 5 years. Who's to say he's not coming back to Cleveland after 5 years? You never know... that's why you don't burn a bridge like that. Especially with someone of LeBron's stature where he's the best player in the L and global icon. It only turns people against you. I feel bad for Cavs fans because this owner has cost them:- Any chance of LeBron coming back after 5 years- Future stars considering Cleveland will err... I guarantee nothing good will happen to this Cavs organization as long as Gilbert is still the owner, or at least until he admits he made a mistake with that statement and aplogizes. There's no way around it. Edited July 9, 2010 by Snake
The Artesticle
I love the letter. But at the same time are players really going to play for Cleveland if this is the type of backlash they get for leaving?Nobody wants to play for the Cavs, Not even their own golden boy. Gilbert probably just said [expletive] it no one's coming here anyways, so why not Edited July 9, 2010 by Artesticle

Taber
If LeBron is so awful, gives up in games and cant win why would he try so hard to get him to return?

SRV
Ouch, I really wonder what kind of reception he gets when he comes back. The only times he will be in Cleveland is to play. Hell come in like an hour before the game and leave right after with a bunch of security with him. You know those fans are about ready to kill him if they see him around there. He can't show his face there ever again.
Owner Real Deal Posted July 9, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted July 9, 2010 Ouch, I really wonder what kind of reception he gets when he comes back.According to every Cleveland fan I've seen on RCF, it's going to be the worst experience of his life. Every appearance. And they will never forget. I wonder if, 30 years from now, LeBron looks back and feels as if it was a mistake (hell, I wonder if he looks back and feels that way right now, even). If he truly believes in loyalty, which is what he's preached since he got it tattooed on his body, you know it's running through his head. There's no doubt in my mind he realizes he will never be able to visit Akron or Cleveland again. Not without being among his teammates in Miami and the security guards wrapped around him. Kind of sad if you think about it.
Jammin
The funny thing I see is how he thinks that when the 1st or 2nd best player in the NBA leaves the team, it means they'll win a championship. I personally guarantee that the Cleveland Cavaliers will never win a championship until they get another #1 pick and land a future superstar. The Regime
Even with all this, the quote of the day goes to Otis Smith. When asked if James' move to Miami will cause a power shift in the NBA, Smith responded, "Is Kobe retiring?"

Cleveland's Finest
Well, he must be pissed. Look at LeBron now. He's avidly recruiting players. In the seven years as a Cav, when did he ever try and get a star here? Could've gotten Michael Redd, Ray Allen 5 years ago, but LBJ wouldn't commit.
