Owner Real Deal Posted July 11, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted July 11, 2010 Rookie Ladder: http://www.nba.com/rookieladder/?ls=iref:nbahpt1 Is anyone else super-impressed by Ebanks and Caracter? Both are second round picks that are playing like first-rounders. Ebanks is spotting up really well, defending well, looking like Trevor Ariza (almost identical, to be honest), and Caracter is very good in the post, looks like Glen Davis with Andrew Bynum post skills. Keep in mind how important Ebanks was to West Virginia, and that Caracter was the best high school player in the country at one point (top five in a lot of mocks for a while), and his attitude dropped him to the second round. Both look NBA-ready, and both look to be replacing Walton and Powell maybe during their rookie seasons. I'm rarely interested in second-rounders that we pick up, like Sun Yue, but these two guys can ball...and I truly think we picked up two steals in the draft. Guest STL10
Lakers always draft well. See Andrew Bynum, Derek Fisher, and Kobe Bryant. (The Lakers made the Hornets pick him for Divac)
Gorilla Dog
Yeah, both guys are getting camp invites to training camp and are going to make the team. Caracter is replacing Powell/MBenga and Ebanks is replacing Morrison. I don't see them getting a lot of playing time in their first two years with the Lakers. Mitch got 2 steals in the 2nd round because both guys have 1st round talent and potential. A lot of people don't know Caracter was one of the best players in the country when he was in high school and he outplayed Oden multiple times in high school camps. Vitasoy
Hopefully they make the team and Phil gives them some playing time . Great second round picks.
kingfish
Yup I really like the picks but not sure about the importance of summer league. Ebanks offensive game is surprising, but I think he can be very useful in playing great defense on particular guys when we need him to. magicbalala245
Before the draft started I first thought that any 2nd rounders we drafted probably wouldn't make the team but with the progress they have made are clearly showing in summer league competing against their own peers from this year draft class. Will see if they will have an impact in a real game but none the less these guys are balling and sky's the limit for these two.
The Regime
Lakers always draft well. See Andrew Bynum, Derek Fisher, and Kobe Bryant. (The Lakers made the Hornets pick him for Divac) lol I wouldn't go that far. See Joe Crawford, Sun Yue, Javaris Crittenton.
The Artesticle
I've liked the Ebanks pick from day one. He was a tremendous defensive player in college. I heard he shut down John Wall and Evan Turner when he was assigned to guard them. He was projected as a lottery pick before the college season started but didn't progress as much as expected so his stock fell. He was supposed to go in the first round but fell all the way to us. I loved the pick when it was first made. I knew very little about Caracter but I read up on him and in high school he used to up against Oden in camps and held his ground. He was also projected as a lottery pick but his attitude problems in college killed him and he got kicked out of Louisville. He said he's learned from the past though and won't waste his second opportunity, and he's certainly playing like it in summer league. Obviously it's just summer league so this means nothing, but it's still encouraging to watch them play so well, especially considering where we drafted them. I hope they both make the roster and I'm rooting for them. Edited July 12, 2010 by Artesticle

Nitro
I actually played against Caracter in a basketball camp. It was the camp of his high school coach, Kevin Boyle, and he came in and played in a few scrimmages. A few years older than me, but it was pretty fun. He had a bunch of character (no pun intended) problems throughout both HS and college with Pitino. Very curious to see if he can make it in the NBA. The Artesticle
Ebanks had a let down game today. Caracter had 16/10 another double double. His motto this summer is "bring your game not your name."
Sun Tzu
I actually expected Ebanks to go in the first round in the draft. I knew when the Lakers drafted him that he would be a steal. The Lakers bench certainly did improve their depth by drafting Ebanks and Caracter.
