Cost of living in your area?

Recommended Posts

Hows the cost of living where you live? Is it an expensive place to live? Is it cheap?

I'm asking this because just last week I was in Houston visiting some relatives. They recently bought a single family home (a little smaller than the house I live in right now in Maryland), for just under 200K. I was absolutely shocked because in Maryland, 200K gets you a nice townhouse.. The house I live in costs roughly 550K or so, over in Texas it would be around 250-300K.

In Oregon costs are slightly higher for real estate than the USA average, but other costs of living are way too high. The worst part is that wages are relatively low here.

Once I get my bacherlor's I'm probably going elsewhere. I love Oregon but there's better places out there.

Very high, I live in a 0 crime all white neighborhood (no racist just saying) that has it's own stop on the metro north railroad and it's own school district.

Basic statistics say that places with less minorities have less crime, you dont have to say you arent racist, its just true lol.

Compared to the rest of the country, Piscataway (zip 08854)'s cost of living is 25.10% Higher than the U.S. average.

Piscataway (zip 08854) public schools spend $9,664 per student. The average school expenditure in the U.S. is $5,678. There are about 11.8 students per teacher in Piscataway (zip 08854).

The housing though is through the roof and so are the property taxes... you need to make some money to be able to afford to live on your own in most of the state of NJ. Otherwise, the state parks are beautiful and if you can afford to live in the more rural areas, go for it!

Did some research only to find my original thoughts were accurate; it really does cost too much to live here.

$500 a month gets you a pretty nice three-bedroom house, two-car garage, central heat and air (what I'm in).

My parents' house is a three bedroom, two-car garage, basement and attic, two-story house that was appraised at $65,000.

Pretty cheap.

Don't worry it's worse in NYC ;)

Yeah I'm sure it is haha.

My brother lives in Bellevue, WA... the most expensive place to live on the west coast, even worse than Beverly Hills from what I've heard.

Stuff there is ridiculous... It's like $1,800 a month for a crappy little apartment.

Wow, I'd love to live in the States with those kind of rent prices. 500 a month for a nice house? Jesus, that'd be nice.

My parents own our current house which is four bedrooms, two bathrooms and it's currently appraised at I think around $500,000. They rent out a three bedroom/one bathroom house in a terrible, drug filled neighbourhood and they get $1,250 per month for rent.
