magicbalala245
One source close to the process said Odom, in that scenario, would likely favor a return to the Heat, which would be a strong statement by Miami management to 2010 free agent-to-be Dwyane Wade. The Heat could theoretically sign Odom, trade for Utah's Carlos Boozer and then re-sign Boozer in the summer of 2010 without needing salary-cap space because Miami would own Boozer's Bird rights. Those moves would set Wade up to be flanked by two quality forwards and almost certainly enhance the Heat's chances of convincing their star to stay. Owner Real Deal Posted July 15, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted July 15, 2009 Theoretically? Realistically, Stein is an idiot for thinking Lamar Odom is going to accept the MLE.
Flash
I honestly don't know who I prefer at this point. Either one is a major upgrade for us because Lamar's one year in Miami might have been the best of his career. As long as Beasley stays I don't care what we do. Well to get Boozer Beasley would have to be traded. I'm not sure if that would be worth it? I'd probably rather have Boozer since I don't think Beasley will ever have the inside game of him. If they can get Odom too that would be pretty straight. Just need to get upgrade the center and point guard positions or hope their guys develop into capable starters. JWaLL
There is just no way Odom is going to accept a salary as low as the MLE. I imagine he'll go for as low as 7 million, MAYBE 6. I'd be very shocked if he ended up back in Miami.

Highly unlikely Beasley goes to Utah. If its a deal for Beasley then I don't do it. As for Odom, I think what may be working in our favor is that we may be willing to give him over 3 years which it seems LA won't do.
SRV
I honestly don't care who we trade..I want Wade with us for the rest of his career. We can't afford to sit back and hope he re-signs, we got to do what he asks, and bringing in Odom and Boozer is enough to keep him around. Would I like to keep Beasley? Yes, but we can do without him if we keep Wade in Miami and have a guy like Boozer around. If we get those two guys and keep Beasley then Pat Riley is officially a G. I heard we will offer Odom MLE, he will probably accept and then next year when we have cap we will offer him more money, according to ESPN. Flash
Makes sense if Odom is willing to take a pay cut for one season. If we do get Boozer we'll own his Bird right which is big as well. I think the Boozer deal would give us options as well because we don't necessarily need to extend him. I still think Bosh is Riley's master plan. Owner Real Deal Posted July 15, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted July 15, 2009 Odom turned down $9 million a year for three years, $10 million a year for four years, to go back to the defending champions. Why should anyone believe he's going to take the MLE for a year, knowing that Wade may bolt? That makes absolutely no sense for a guy who's capable of going to Portland for $50 million, five years (or even Oklahoma City). Odom's agent is searching for job security and money. A contract of $6 million, one year? If that was fine with Odom, he would have many more suitors. Word is that Riley offered Haslem and Wright for Odom. The Lakers aren't going to take that. And the deal is, if Portland gets Millsap, or if they lose out on him and chase David Lee, Odom will HAVE to be granted a sign and trade to get his $10 million a year, hope that the Thunder are interested (and no signs are showing that they are), or just accept a shorter contract from the Lakers.
