Collison, Thornton eager to boost bench

"After draft picks Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton were introduced as the Hornets' newest members Friday, they appeared unfazed about having to develop under an accelerated learning curve this coming season. With Coach Byron Scott in the final year of his contract, both rookies are expected to contribute immediately to strengthen the bench, which struggled last season and played a role in the team's first-round playoff elimination. The Hornets selected Collison, a 6-foot, 160-pound point guard from UCLA, as the 21st overall pick in the first round of Thursday night's NBA draft. They acquired LSU's Thornton, a 6-4, 205-pound shooting guard, in a trade after he was was selected by the ..."

I'm excited about both of these picks. I think Thornton could very well become the starting SG early in the season so that Butler can move back to the bench where he is more productive. He can score it, and what he lacks in height, he makes up with muscle. I'm also excited to see what Collison could become learning from the best point guard in the game today. Collison comes into basically a no-pressure situation and gets to learn/practice/play against as good competition as it gets one on one. Great draft by the Hornets, I didn't think we had it in us.

I still can't believe we passed up on the 2 PITT guys.

Thornton looks promising, and Collison could be the #2 point by the end of the year but right now Antonio Daniels is ahead of him on the DC by a fair margin I think.

Yeah, I was aggravated at first that we passed on Young. Problem is, he plays the same position as Julian and he has a hard enough time trying to get PT as it is, so I didn't think that'd work out. On the other hand, Blair can contribute immediate rebounding, but I wouldn't have liked picking him strictly for his knees. I know his coach said Blair had never missed a practice or a game because of his knees, but it's just too much of a risk, IMO, considering we have an oft-injured team as it is.

I sure hope we can deal Daniels and his contract this off-season. That would be HUGE. I think we might be pursuing some deal involving him considering the pick of Collison and the FO's comments that Pargo is still an option.

Yeah, Pargo was a spark 2 years ago.

Blair's double ACL nightmare isn't good, but I don't think it's that scary. Like his coach said, I've never seen him miss a game that I know of, and hey at worst he fits in with our big men. ;)
