Four NBA teams are on the verge of a five-player trade, two league sources said.

In the proposed deal, the Houston Rocketswill send Trevor Ariza to the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets will send Darren Collison and James Posey to the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers will send Troy Murphy to the New Jersey Nets. And the Nets will send Courtney Lee to the Rockets.

According to the sources the Rockets, Hornets, Pacers and Nets are in advanced discussions on the deal and the principals involved are set. The teams were ironing out details, including Posey's trade kicker and possible cash payments.

Troy Murphy is still very capable of putting up 15/10 with 2-3 threes a night. Darren Collinson is a good player and will help the Pacers, but James Posey really fell off in the last year. Pacers won't rape this trade at all, but they do get the best deal along with the Nets.

Who's filling in the PF position for Pacers? That's some pretty big shoes to fill. Maybe Tyler Hansbrough gets some playtime this year.

They also have plenty at the SG/SF position so maybe they're moving Dunleavy?

Trevor Ariza had an offensive win share last season of 0.1. That means that Ariza contributed slightly less than 0 average wins last season with his offense. His true shooting percentage is under 50%, which is poor. He shot less than 40% overall, and less than 35% from three.

By trading him, the Rockets save a bit of cash, get another decent defensive player back, and open up more playing time for Shane Battier, Kevin Martin, and Chase Budinger.

His shooting percentages were horrible prior to the Kevin Martin trade, but his stats post ASG were rock solid. His field goal percentage went straight up to 44% and he was 41% from behind the arc. Terrible shooter right?

Chase is a gifted shooter but his defense isn't very desirable. Trevor played tremendous defense for a while and helped bring back the fast break game to Houston with his steals. His ability to slash and make a pass to the open player was very Tmac-isque, and a very underrated aspect of his game. Trevor did all the little things that were perfect next to premiere scorers in Brooks and Kevin Martin, and an all-star big man.

One postseason and one half-season of shooting is enough to justify $10 million dollars? The Rockets can get the same offensive things out of K-Mart that they got from Ariza, and Lee can play pretty good team defense. They'll plug Battier back in to the small forward position and use Budinger as a backup offensive spark. Ariza is superfluous at his price.

To me, this looks like a great deal for all 4 teams. The Rockets shed money and open up playing team for certain players, the Nets gain an expiring contract, the Pacers get a much needed point guard, and the Hornets bring in a solid defensive 3.

Is this the star the Hornets and CP3 agreed on?

Odd for the Rockets but while it seems like a huge loss, I think they'll be just fine.

Hopefully Indiana can suck for at least one more year so the Cavs don't have to worry about them.

Hornets now in playoff race?

Nets still suck.

Awesome. State we are a possible playoff team then add a dude who has the longest active streak of games played without being in the playoffs.

Least we will be better than the Cavs.

So a team that had 12 wins adds Troy Murphy and Travis Outlaw and drafts Favors.

Those three additions take them that far?

So the Cavs will have what, 30 less wins and the Nets will have 20 more wins around?

It was a joke but I wouldn't be surprised if the Nets finished ahead of the Cavs and I don't think the Nets are making the playoffs. But hey, that's just me.

[expletive]ing terrible i hate this trade on the Rockets end. I know it is going to save us alot of money but at least get the right value for Ariza. I like lee as a pick but not if we have to give up Ariza for him. Don't know wh we did this :(

They did get the right value---another defender and $10 million dollars.

Nets P.O.V- Good trade. They lose a solid role player in Lee, but Murphy's a quality player and has a $11M expiring contract.

Pacers P.O.V- They got a very good PG in Collison who will be in a great situation in Indiana. He'll have the chance to really showcase his talents and expand his game along with the likes of Granger, Hibbert, etc... Next season they'll have plenty of caproom and some nice talent to finally make Indiana relevant again.

Hornets P.O.V- I don't think Ariza is exactly what Paul had in mind when the Hornets vowed to improve their roster. Now they lose a terrific young PG with All-Star potential and are left with a disgruntled superstar PG that will in all likelihood be gone sooner rather than later. And all they got to show for it at this time is Trevor Ariza. Yikes...

Rockets P.O.V- They save money and get a solid back-up in Lee. Ariza was expendable once Budinger developed and they got Martin. Get rid of a bad contract, gained an asset and saved money.

As Nitro's analysis shown above, this is a rare multi-team trade where all teams benefit in some way. I really like the Pacers especially, with Collison they have no worries about the PG position and they are pretty much all filled up in other positions (I am hoping Hansbrough can replace Murphy)
