NomarFachix
Just watched the replay about 5 times, Coleman nailed Collie in the side of the helmet with the crown of his helmet. Clear helmet to helmet hit.
EastCoastNiner
Yes a mans whole entire life might be ruined right now, what a [expletive] That has nothing to do with it. The hit wasn't an intentional helmet to helmet hit. Austin Collie turned into the hit. Let them play the game. It's a violent game and injuries are going to happen.  Oh, and wouldn't you know, not one of the CBS half-time analysts agree with you and jwill. . EastCoastNiner
You might as well take hitting out of football. You need to punish intentional acts, not acts that naturally happen during the flow of a play. This is really turning into flag football.

NomarFachix
That has nothing to do with it. The hit wasn't an intentional helmet to helmet hit. Austin Collie turned into the hit. Austin Collie turned upfield after catching the football? Totally excuses a helmet to helmet hit. I take back what I said. AboveLegit
You'll have to watch the replay, I guess I will too... But Samuel (first hit) used his shoulder, second guy (didn't see who it was) got him helmet to helmet. I'll take another look, though...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kufy7Q1FVSAÂ So it was a helmet to helmet hit. The problem is though the defensive player wasn't leading with his helmet or trying to use it in an aggressive way. The first hit on Collie caused him to spin and him turning caused what would have been a shoulder-to-shoulder hit into helmet contact. You can't hold defensive players responsible for that kind of play, if you do you may as well make a rule that no contact is allowed above the waist. No one is saying it wasn't helmet to helmet. However, there wasn't much the defender could do there. When players are going full speed, you don't have time to react and say, "Oh, hold on while I lift my head up a little so I don't hurt you." You are responsible for the crown of your helmet and where it hits your opponent. Not sure what you're arguing, but glad you agree with me on the hit. Guru
It was clearly helmet to helmet, anyone arguing that needs to get their eyes checked.
EastCoastNiner
It was clearly helmet to helmet, anyone arguing that needs to get their eyes checked. I don't think anyone is arguing that. The argument is that there should be no suspension or fine because Collie was not defenseless and the helmet to helmet contact was a result of him running into the defender. AboveLegit
You guys aren't getting it. Yeah it was helmet to helmet, but what could the defender do about it? You can't penalize someone for trying to make a play on the ball, that's just not right.

EastCoastNiner
That is not true at all. The defender was clearly not "ran into" by Collie. The first hit turned Collie into the second defender who was ready to make a tackle, but once Collie was turned into him, the helmet to helmet contact resulted. EastCoastNiner
Hmm, on a second look you are right. That's what I am saying. There WAS helmet to helmet contact, but there really wasn't much the second defender could have done. I may have worded it poorly saying Collie "ran into" the second defender, but he was turned into the second defender one way or the other, and I can't fault the defender on this. I said two weeks ago that Merriweather's hit was the dirtiest hit that day, but I don't think this hit was dirty at all.  Also, it shouldn't surprise you that I am right....... You can't penalize someone for trying to make a play on the ball, that's just not right. As I outlined earlier, it is written in the NFL rulebook that you are responsible for your helmet and where it ends up striking your opponent. A helmet to helmet hit is a penalty. You can't nitpick which occasion to call a penalty, it is too subjective. Strike a helmet with your helmet, 15 yards. Did it not lead to an eventual Colts TD? That fumble could have been huge for the Eagles, and a huge momentum changer for the Colts going into the half. There is no circumstance involved with the penalty, if you strike an offensive player in the helmet with your helmet, it is 15 yards. Coleman struck Collie in the helmet with his helmet.
