Dash
2008 Celtics, sweet Jesus when I saw the opponent FG% I couldn't believe it.
Nitro
1986 Celtics. Much, much better offense with the single best player on either team (Bird). From a roster standpoint, the Celtics were better at 3 of the 5 starting positions (arguably 4-5, although I give Ray and KG the slight edge over DJ and McHale). The one thing the 2008 squad had was depth, but I think the 1986 team was more well-rounded.
JWaLL
In regards to how they performed against their own competition, the edge goes to the '86 Celtics. Defensively both teams were similar, but with the dominating offense of Bird's Celtics, that just about pushes them over the top. The defensive FG% for the '06 Celtics is amazing though, but to have a more efficient offense and the same outcome at the end of the year (NBA champs) there's no questioning who the better team was. Owner Real Deal Posted August 23, 2010 Author Owner Report Share Posted August 23, 2010 Even though I posted the topic, I didn't realize just how low that oppFG% was for the 08 Celtics. :o
Nitro
Even though I posted the topic, I didn't realize just how low that oppFG% was for the 08 Celtics. :o Fun fact that's kinda non-related but we could make a topic of: During the last 43 games of the 2003-2004 Pistons run (including post-season) they gave up over 95pts only THREE times!!! That included the insane 5 games streak of not allowing 70pts, which NJ broke on the last shot of a blowout to get their point total to 71pts. In fact, I remember them acting like they just won the championship when they broke the 70pt mark

Nitro
BTW I was just looking it up and the 2007-2008 Celtics held teams to 41.9% shooting, not 38%.
