Check my Stats
Well Wade is done for the night, how anti-climactic.
SRV
Lebron is a monster...too bad I couldn't see the big three in action together since Wade got injured so early. Edited October 6, 2010 by SRV

Owner Real Deal Posted October 6, 2010 Author Owner Report Share Posted October 6, 2010 The Heat are having trouble rotating on defense. Is there such thing as too many help defenders and not enough on-ball defenders?
Nitro
The Heat are having trouble rotating on defense. Is there such thing as too many help defenders and not enough on-ball defenders? I'm not watching the game, but if they're having trouble rotating on defense I don't think the issue is having too many help defenders. My guess is the problem comes solely from the fact that it's their first game together.
AboveLegit
My guess is the problem comes solely from the fact that it's their first game together.I agree with this to a certain extent, but I do believe as a contender, you need some good on ball defenders (whether it's in the paint or on the perimeter). The Heat big three are all known to be help defenders, and not great on ball defenders.

That would be like running an offense with five Richard Hamiltons, jogging around and waiting for a pass that isn't there.
Flash
Well we didn't get to see them together for very long but we definitely saw glimpses from LBJ and especially Bosh. However, the guy who I was very impressed with was Mike Miller. He's going to be huge this year. The second unit looked outstanding today with him in there along with UD and Mario. The third unit looked like, the third unit. Anyways, we'll see what this team really is come opening night against Orlando.
SRV
I didn't watch the game that closely in the 2nd half because I was doing HW, but the defense looked really aggressive. A lot of steals, its not perfect, but its only their first game. Spo only cares about defense, so thats what they will practice. The offense doesn't even need practice, we had a lot of key guys that barely played, and we still put up 105.

All of the hustle, unselfish play, commitment to the defensive end (despite being an average defender), and ability to get rebounds will be huge for the second unit. And your first game of the regular season is against Boston, not Orlando.

SRV
Good thing its pre season. Season starts in 3 weeks, I would rather him rest up before he really injures himself.Wade knows the team better than anyone else, he should be able to come back and blend in with Lebron and Bosh. Nitro
Not being able to contain your opposition is an issue. You can't run with five help defenders on the court. That would be like running an offense with five Richard Hamiltons, jogging around and waiting for a pass that isn't there. I understand this, but the Heat have capable on-ball defenders. The Celtics have made a living the past few years off incredible team defense and guys like Ray Allen and Paul Pierce defending the other team's best perimeter scoring options. Sure, they had Posey in the 2008 run and Tony Allen last season to help that off the bench, but their team defense is what shut players down. Don't mix up the fact that the Heat's strength will be team defense with them not being good on-ball defenders. Also, I fully expect Haslem to get plenty of playing time when the team has to go up against some of the more dynamic PF's in the league. He's like a mini-KG in the sense that he is an amazing help defender, but also does a very good job of on-ball defense (see- 2006 Finals). Big Z was one of the best in the league last season at defending the post, and Joel did a great job from what I remember last year in containing Bynum by fronting him and using his athleticism (although they will have big trouble if he is grabbing 1-2 boards in 20+ minutes like he did tonight). The team really doesn't have any guys that they will need to hide on defense...at least not any of the players that will be seeing considerable minutes. I've been saying since this team was built that defense will not be an issue. The Heat have been historically a top 5-10 defensive team almost every season since Riley was hired, and I highly doubt that will change now that they have all this talent. Their biggest issue on defense, from what I saw in the scrimmages they played in, will be over-gambling. However, this may be what makes this team so dominating, because once they hit the fastbreak it'll be over.

Abro
The Heat are having trouble rotating on defense. Is there such thing as too many help defenders and not enough on-ball defenders?one thing i noticed when they had bad rotations was when their bench players like James Jones was in the game( James Jones is a TERRIBLE defender) and i believe Tayshaun Prince had like 3 threes against him where he just got caught in the paint and the point or whoever was handling the ball just kicked it to the perimeter shooter and some other guys on the team just didn't rotate fast enough. But they will get it over time i think if they want to be dedicated to the end of the floor.

This team is going to be scary good defensively. 2 out of the first 3 possessions for Detroit resulted in turnovers when all 3 where out there. Bosh won every battle for a rebound last night which was good to see. He's going to have a huge year.
