YugoRocketsFan
I don't think we'll be able to fix anything this year, we have to wait next year because Battier, Yao and Jeffries all expire and with the assets we have I will be looking forward to next season even though it's in a long time. htown11
1) Their three best players are their worst defenders. I could probably score on Scola in the post, over and over again. Martin doesn't play defense. Brooks is the same way...and, sad enough, it seems like he has lost his touch and can't shoot anymore. That's the worse part about it, so much of Adelmans offense flows through these guys. Brooks just needs to find some consistency, that injury has made him lose all rhythm in his game. The last time he really looked like AB was against the Wizards where he became a fourth quarter closer that night for the Rockets. T Wolves offered Flynn and Rockets denied, but I am sure he would be involved in a package if it was the right one. 2) Adelman is in love with Brad Miller and Luis Scola. He's always had this thing for bigs that can shoot the ball...works well in the Princeton. It's a plus if they can pass. He was obsessed with Miller back in Sactown, and now he found him another one in Scola. One can score the ball, the other really has to heat up from downtown before he makes a big impact, and neither play any sort of defense, ever...probably two of the worst bigs in the league on that end of the court. Agreed, said something similar in the last post those two on the court together is pathetic defensively. Plus teams double team Scola now and he has trouble getting out of that situation. 3) Some of the best defenders on the team are a wreck on offense. Lowry is trouble...been saying that all year long, scores the ball but can't shoot worth a lick. Battier is useless if he's not spotting up. Hayes doesn't get the ball enough to make a difference. Lee really isn't polished enough on the offensive end to take over a game, if needed, and he doesn't drive to the tin as much as he should. The thing about Lowry is he finds other ways to contribute which makes him so valuable. He is a pass first guard so I like the fact that he understands he can't shoot a lick but at times he is left so open that it's sadly the best option. He's a ball of energy some nights, and a very mediocre point guard other nights. Lee can't take over a game but he's a real spark for the Rockets. Maybe it's time the Rockets look to use T Will for a similar role. 4) 35% of Kevin Martin's shots are three-point attempts. That's more than Ron Artest (32%), almost Ray Allen (36%) and Martin is supposed to be the team's primary scoring option that also has to create for others. Other teams that have their definitive primary options as three-point shooters? Bobcats, Cavaliers, Pacers, Clippers, Bucks, Suns (with J-Rich), Jazz and Wizards...and only one of those teams have a winning record, and that's because they are a more complete squad. Great point. Kevin wont create for others because he can't, it's always the others creating for him which ends up being a huge problem down the stretch. That's where they miss a guy who can do a little bit of everything, survey the court and decide what needs to be done. Kevin Martin just doesn't draw that type of attention and he doesn't play like a star who wants the ball in his hands down the stretch. A lot to fix, not much time to fix it. Depends how you look at it. Clearly this team is missing a superstar and until they somehow acquire one mediocrity will be a huge problem. They have decisions to make at the deadline and during free agency. The biggest positive is knowing that the Tmac+Yao era has officially come to a close and that's not a mysterious factor anymore. ChosenOne
Yeah Kevin MartIn shoots alot of threes but you also have to note how many times he gets to the line. Stats dont really show the entire picture. He attacks far more than shoots threes. Edit: but yes his disire to be the guy down the stretch and make plays for other seems to really not exist.
