ChosenOne
Rudy Fernandez continues to lobby for a trade to New York, but the Knicks either can't or won't make a trade for the Portland shooting guard. According to a team source, Knicks president Donnie Walsh recently rejected a three-team deal that would have sent Anthony Randolph to Indiana, a first-round pick to Portland and Fernandez to New York. Because the Trail Blazers are insisting on receiving a first-round pick in return for Fernandez, the Knicks likely need to recruit a third team in order to complete a deal. The Blazers apparently have little interest in Wilson Chandler. Fernandez, who is currently playing for Spain at the world championships in Turkey, was fined by the NBA for publicly asking for a trade. Denver's Carmelo Anthony has avoided similar punishment from the league, although from all indications, he'd like to be traded to the Knicks, Nets, Rockets or Clippers. Owner Real Deal Posted September 4, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted September 4, 2010 I don't see why any team would want Fernandez at this point.
Multi-Billionaire
He had a down season and the team acquiring him would not know his commitment. It's a risk. But he could be a mini Ginobili if he has his mind right... I do think he's too shot happy to be a Ginobili caliber player. But at his peak, a "mini Ginobili" is good. Newman
Considering that the Knicks had Sergio Rodriguez, who went back to Spain this off-season, they probably know that Rudy's mind is elsewhere and he definitely won't get the shot number he wants with any NBA team. I am sure Knicks have enough shooters already and although Fernandez would be a perfect fit to the system, he will take away the shot attempts that could go to other guys like Danilo, Chandler or Felton. Owner Real Deal Posted September 5, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted September 5, 2010 Well, the idea brewing in Rudy's brain was that he could gain leverage by saying he was willing to sit for two seasons, then go back to Spain and ditch the league. He was hoping that would change Portland's mind about keeping him on the roster. Problem is, now there are 29 other teams who seem to be turned off by that, and rightfully so. NomarFachix
Hell, I wouldn't pay the price they want even if he was guaranteed to stay.
Warren2ThaG
Portland doesn't need Rudy, they are just trying for the most value currently. They have the most depth in the NBA, 12-13 deep.
The Next Knick
Thank god, I really like the kid (Randolph) and see a lot of potential for him to be an all-star.
