IRVING, Texas (AP)—The Dallas Cowboys have given Pro Bowl receiver Miles Austin(notes) his long-anticipated new contract.

Austin is getting a six-year contract extension. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed.

Austin signed a $3.168 million contract in June, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had repeatedly said he wanted to sign the receiver coming off a breakout season to a long-term deal. That finally came Thursday, three days before the season opener at Washington.

Austin last season had 81 catches for 1,320 yards, sixth-best in team history and the sixth-best by an undrafted receiver ever in the NFL.

What? He's quick to pull the trigger on deals, that what I meant by my statement.

Lol he's been waiting to sign Miles long term on a while. Quick to pull trigger? Ware got his contract extension during the final year of his contract, hardly the time you want to wait to extend a dpoy candidate. If Ware were the type there might have even been a hold out in the 2009 preseason. Miles Austin and Tony Romo are the only 2 players you can possibly say Jerry Jones gave a slightly premature extension to, Romo proved he deserved it. Miles will.

Umm, there's a good reason people think he's over-paid and that Jerry Jones is quick to pull the trigger.

He had 0 catches in 2006, 5 in 2007, 13 in 2008, and 81 last season. That's a lot of money to pay someone that had one good season.

Jerry Jones better hope he doesn't get Roy Williams syndrome either.

I'm not saying whether or not that's a bad deal, but I understand how people can question the deal when he's done nothing for three years, and then shined last season.

First of all it's only 18 mill guaranteed, if he does turn out to be a bust we can cut him in 2 or 3 years.

Roy Williams syndrome? You mean get injured?

The real argument was weather it was a "typical jerry jones move" meanwhile Jerry hasn't given a lot of long guaranteed premature deals to many people on the team, including Jay Ratliff our second best player on defense last year.
