ChosenOne
http://www.csnbayarea.com/common/medialib/223/220847.jpg The 49ers made tight end Vernon Davis the highest-paid tight end in league history on the eve of the team's regular-season opener. Davis, who was entering the final year of his contract, signed a five-year, $37 million extension that guarantees him $23 million, a source close to the situation told Comcast SportsNet. A team captain the past two seasons, Davis had a breakout season in 2009 with a team-leading 78 receptions for 965 yards. His 13 touchdown receptions tied the league record for touchdowns for a tight end.Davis earned the second huge contract extension the 49ers have executed since the end of last season, joining Patrick Willis. Back in May, two league sources told Comcast SportsNet Bay Area that the 49ers and Davis' camp were working toward a contract extension. At the time, CSNBayArea.com reported that Davis was seeking a five-year, $40 million contract with $25 million in guaranteed money. EastCoastNiner
Good for him. He absolutely deserves it. I'm glad to see him maturing both on and off the field. I like that he set Michael Crabtree straight, and that Mike Singletary had Vernon Davis's back. I don't know if he'll have the same stats this season, but I'm expecting big things from him this season.
