Mo Williams considered retiring

Recommended Posts

If he quit that would have been amazing for the Cavs tbh, Gilbert must be pissed that Mo would even say that, it is almost a tease... getting rid of his contract would have been awesome

Honestly $8.5-9M per year for a 27y.o 16-17PPG scorer ain't bad. He'll certainly be a tradable asset in time as many teams could use an elite 3pt shooter who can handle a bit and make some plays for himself. In the next few years they won't be able to attract any big-name FA's, so it isn't like they need a ton of cap room.

Now, Antawn Jamison's gigantic contract (especially for a guy in his mid-30's) and Boobie Gibson's hefty sized contract (around $5M a year for a guy glued to the bench) are ones that I'm sure Gilbert would love wiped away before Mo's.

With all that said, that's pretty embarassing for Mo to say. I understand it is heartbreaking to go from being on national TV every week to being buried somewhere in the lottery, but you are a professional. It's a part of the business.

I didn't believe when a buddy of mine told me he saw this. That is truly sad.

When a great friend of mine was fired from my job last year I didn't contemplate quitting and not working anymore all together. I love what I do. I was more hurt in my situation then Mo was I bet. I wanted to leave my job, but go WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I don't get wantin to retire. Sounds like a douche move to me.

I feel like LBJ didn't consider Mo a close friend lol... it is like in gym class where all your real friends are in the other class, but there is that one halfway decent kid so you are kind of friends by default almost because he is the 2nd best. Mo just was mislead, I feel sorry for the dude, his heart is broken.

You could always tell that Mo would always ride LBJ's jock. Dude made it obvious lol.

So Mo was riding LeBron but now LeBron is riding Wade and Riley. Maybe Mo is mad because he thought LeBron was a leader and never saw that in him.

Let's watch Miami play a few games before we say if LeBron is riding anyone, especially to the point Mo did LeBron.

And no, Mo is mad because he goes from in the spotlight to irrelevant in the span of a one-hour "Decision." He goes from being voted into the ASG to being recognized only on NBATV highlights at midnight. He goes from being on one of the favorites to win an NBA title to a team deep in the lottery. Do NOT try and twist it to somehow Mo considering retirement was because LeBron supposedly didn't do what he was supposed to in his time on the Cavs.

You are giving LeBron the benefit of the doubt but not too Mo here. I'm happy Mo felt how we felt and didn't say "He did what was best for him and his family." Until we see Mo play, we can't judge this. Am I saying he'll score 20 ppg? no. But that doesn't mean he can't be effective. Like it or not, he wound up an all star. When he was with Milwaukee he obviously was talented, you can't make it seem like the Cavs had no talent other than LeBron. That's so overblown.

When LBJ had his announcement, as always with anything tragic, people behave irrationally. Mo showed his feelings and is talking about it in retrospect. I'm not nervous about him moving forward.

Huh? How am I not giving Mo the benefit of the doubt? He was equally as effective as he was in Milwaukee...I am not saying he can't play without LeBron. What I am saying is that without LeBron, the Cavs will plummet into a lottery bound team. Without LeBron, Mo will not be on national TV every week. And even if he is just as effective without LeBron, the ASG is a popularity contest. He made it in 2009 because he was on a team destined for 66 wins and put up respectable numbers. Every season the crappy teams' best player(s) get snubbed over inferior players on better teams. Now that Mo is on one of those crappy teams, he'll just be a memory in the casual NBA fan's mind...much like how he was an unknown to those same fans when he was on the Bucks.

Mo is a professional. A teammate moving onto another team isn't "tragic." It's business. It sucks, but that's why Mo gets payed millions and millions.

And as I said, it was all in the moment. It was tragic the first few days after and you know it.

And LeBron's been a professional through this all? Mo has every right to show emotion. It's not like he's putting up videos of him crying on YouTube like Stephon Marbury. He's not cussing or wishing harm to LeBron. And he's not Delonte in that he won't have off court trouble or show any sense of being bipolar.

He's just a normal human being. He's not being extreme at all. Just posting what he feels on twitter. If you seriously see him becoming some controversial figure where he plays like a slouch during the season, well, I just haven't seen any of that in Mo his career here so I consider this a short term, in the moment thing. (Like Dan Gilbert's message to LBJ)
